National Student News Service Organizer Job Opening in chicago, Illinois - National Student News Service Organizer For student organizing and social movements to grow and thrive and for students to have a real voice in decisions that impact them, they need a student media outlets to keep students informed about the issues affecting them and what their fellow students are doing to create change. On many campuses across the country, however, student movements and issues don�t get the coverage they deserve. Whether this happens for good reasons or bad ones, students lose out when their media fails to connect them to each other and to wider national student concerns. The National Student News Services (NSNS) works to improve student media, making sure it fills that role. 

We organize college journalists and the experts working with and advising them to make sure that campus media is filling its role in the campus democracy. The NSNS encourages campus media outlets to cover more student issues and student activism as well as promoting investigative journalism on college campuses. By connecting student journalists from all over America, we help stretch the limited resources of smaller campus papers. The NSNS is not a vehicle for endorsing left or right wing reporting or activism. Rather, the NSNS is a vehicle for student reporters� investigative work, and a venue for reporting activism by students of all social and political stripes. Our goal isn�t to show that one kind of student movement is happening, but that all kinds of student movements are happening. We�re hiring a motivated, hard-working NSNS Organizer based in Chicago. The Organizer will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the project. Responsibilities include: Recruiting, training and working with student interns; Outreach to student newspaper editors, reporters, faculty members, student leaders and community members; Researching, writing and editing the NSNS �News Wire� to be sent out multiple times a week; Building the NSNS readership; Fundraising for the project; and Expanding the project to include new programs. Qualifications We are looking for a motivated individual who is willing to work hard and commit to getting results. We value leadership experience with campus groups or student government, academic achievement, and outstanding verbal, written and leadership skills. Journalistic or writing experience, on campus or off, is highly encouraged but not necessary. Experience with fundraising is also encouraged. Salary and Training 
Entry level staff will earn $23,750 in your first year. Salary for experienced candidates is commensurate with candidates� relevant professional experience.
