Manager (Apprentice Dept/Sales) Job Opening in Wilmington, North carolina - Kids Making It, a nonprofit youth woodworking program is looking for a dynamic and creative individual with a woodworking background who wants to make a positive impact in the lives of young adults in Wilmington, NC. The Apprentice Program Manager will be responsible for leading our team of Apprentices (ages 18+) and increasing our wholesale/retail sales. This will include overseeing day-to-day operations, of team members, as well as managing and increasing online, wholesale and in-store sales of our products.
Ideal candidates will possess excellent organizational and communication skills (verbal, written and active listening skills are critical), have a high degree of business acumen (sales experience preferred), strong attention to detail, love teaching and have a positive attitude. Candidates should be comfortable managing teams in a collaborative environment, be personable, self-motivated, and proactive. Preferred candidates will have experience operating basic woodworking machinery, as well as computer design software such as Corel and V Carve. Laser engraver and ShopBot experience is a big plus.
KEY ROLES
Training & Leadership
Take an active role in shaping the future direction of the program and our students
Oversee daily operations, including management of Apprentices, taking new orders, customer service, basic accounting, adherence to timelines and delivery schedules
Teach team members basic skills, work with each to uncover career interests, cultivate individualized learning paths and help connect them to resources that will put them on the path to long-term gainful employment and financial self-sufficiency.
Product Line Management
Oversee quality and consistency of all products
Work with Apprentices to research and create new product lines
Oversee special order requests
Marketing & Sales
Solicit and cultivate new corporate, retail and wholesale accounts
Promote the program and products online and within the community
Create digital and print marketing materials to increase customer awareness and traffic
Community engagement
Steward existing agency, educational and nonprofit partnerships and cultivate new relationships that will provide students additional resources and pathways toward success
ABOUT THE APPRENTICE PROGRAM
The KMI Apprentice Program provides a continuing pathway for older youth who are looking to enter college or the workforce. We?ve created part-time jobs, hiring on an as-needed basis, older, transitioning youth who have done all the right things ? generally stayed out of trouble, stayed in school, and graduated from high school ? but have found it difficult to secure meaningful employment in this difficult economy. Through the program Apprentices improve their vocational skill sets while learning job readiness and life skills that can help lead them toward success. The Apprentice Program creates custom designed products for the general public, as well as a signature line of custom turned pens and laser engraved products (earrings, ornaments, clocks, plaques and more) that we sell in our on-site gift shop, online and to retailers nationally.
