COMBAT SUPPORT SYSTEMS MANAGER Job Opening in Arlington, Virginia - Overview:
Gibbs & Cox, Inc. is the nation?s leading independent naval architecture, marine engineering and design firm. We are seeking a well qualified individual for a position as the company?s Combat Support Systems Manager of a naval ship design project.
Responsibilities:
Serve as the manager for 5-10 individuals and be responsible for the shipyard design integration of combat systems support systems for a naval combatant design. Areas in your cognizance will include: combat systems support and maintenance systems, exterior communication systems, interior voice communication systems, navigation and integrated bridge systems, electromagnetic interference, and explosive safety.
Participate in design reviews, conduct CDRL reviews, and provide recommendations for the resolution of design issues.
Evaluate the requirements compliance of a combat systems integrator and participate in the preliminary, contract, and detail design of a naval surface combatant.
Support development of the Integrate Master Schedule for systems in your cognizance.
Organize, manage, lead and participate in system engineering technical reviews.
Reviews, develops and documents system level operational concepts and mission statements.
Manage cost, schedule, quality, and technical product development for systems in your cognizance.
Ensure developed systems meet the stated requirements to include reliability and availability requirements.
Evaluates system and architectures and recommends design modifications to eliminate design flaws that do not support the system requirements.
Provide technical recommendations on improving the operation and maintenance of shipboard systems and equipment.
Witness field tests of ship systems and equipment and evaluate their performance as compared to detailed design parameters.
Provide information to be used in revising technical documentation regarding the installation, testing, operation, and maintenance of ship systems and equipment.
Mentor senior and junior staff on projects or teams.
Qualifications:
Bachelor?s Degree or equivalent education in Marine Engineering.
Experience directly related to Surface Combatant major construction milestones and Surface Combatant Combat Support Systems testing at Building Yard/Homeport locations.
10 years of practical, relevant surface ship experience. 7 years of progressive experience involving design, operation, maintenance, and testing of Surface Combatant ship systems and equipment.
Experience with engineering drawings, drawing management, and Configuration Management.
Experience with Microsoft Office Suite applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is required.
Strong communication skills (both written and verbal).
