Accountant Job Opening in Greenbelt, Maryland - POSITION SUMMARY:
The Accountant performs a variety of tasks related to the accounts payable, cash management and general ledger processes of the accounting department including overall financial support to internal and external parties.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Accountant shall:
Perform responsibilities in service, integrity and building relationships in accordance with CVSA core values.
Review, code and process invoices for payment.
Receive and record cash deposits.
Prepare monthly journal entries (accrued expenses, prepaid expenses, reclassifications, etc.).
Create general ledge account reconciliations monthly.
Assist with annual financial audit preparation.
Ensure all invoice compliances are met prior to payment.
Process check request ensuring all required backup is submitted.
Address vendor inquiries and assist with research to resolve issue.
Process corporate credit card payments monthly.
Reconcile vendor statements and prior balances on invoices to ensure accounts remain up to date.
Maintain accounting files.
Perform ad hoc duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
Bachelor?s degree in Accounting or related field required.
Minimum of two (2) years of Accounting experience required.
Experience with QuickBooks and batch accounting through association management systems (AMS) (i.e., MemberSuite) is a plus.
Knowledge:
Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting and cost control principles including GAAP, SOX, automated financial and accounting reporting systems, and federal and state financial regulations.
Knowledge of government contract accounting experience, cost accounting standards and FAR/DFARs.
Working knowledge of short- and long-term budgeting and forecasting, rolling budgets and product line profitability analysis.
Strong knowledge of financial and accounting reporting systems.
Skills and Abilities:
Must have the ability to perform in a fast-paced environment.
Decision making, research and analytical problem solving skills.
Time management with the ability to organize, assess and prioritize multiple tasks, projects and demands, and to work independently.
Possess strong verbal and written communications skills and interact effectively at all levels with the organization.
MS Office ? Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook experience.
Ability to analyze and interpret financial data and to research and resolve complex accounting, management and administrative issues.
Ability to analyze financial data and assist with the preparation financial reports, statements and projections.
Ability to think strategically and demonstrated experience in strategic planning and execution.
Requires professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to operate within GAAP and implement and maintain appropriate internal controls.
Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and tasks.
High level of integrity and personal commitment.
