Staff Accountant Job Opening in New York, New york - STAFF ACCOUNTANT
The Staff Accountant maintains and controls the General Ledger accounts, assists in preparation of financial statements, and performs ad hoc analysis when necessary. This role offers the opportunity to work with several departments within the company and to experience a wide range of responsibilities, expediting and heightening the learning experience. This position reports to the Sr. Manager of Accounting.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Accounts Receivable:
Daily cash posting
Research and communication with customers regarding fines, deductions, and chargebacks
Maintain collections log and prepare write-offs
Reconciliation of payment remittance details and applied deductions to outstanding Accounts Receivable
Accounts Payable:
Daily coding and entering of invoices
Maintain proper documentation of vendors, invoices, contracts, W-9s, etc
Weekly management of vendor payments
Maintain and record bank settlements
Monthly financial statements:
Prepare monthly journal entries
Reconcile balance sheet accounts
Track and analyze monthly expense details within the P&L
Analysis of P&L and balance sheet accounts as needed
Prepare monthly inventory report and analysis
Other:
Assist with annual audit and SOX testing
Assist with monthly use tax fee preparation: estimate tax to be paid, track monthly payments, organize monthly data, follow up with individual states regarding any notices received, and liaise with 3rd party tax consultants
Assist with file maintenance, file creation and improvement of existing files
Create efficiencies wherever possible
Ad hoc analysis
Liaise with other departments, such as sales operations and marketing, on special projects or analysis
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
At least 2 years of experience
Bachelor?s degree in Accounting or Finance
Excellent organization skills, with the ability to demonstrate attention to details and good-record-keeping
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel)
Ability to prioritize workload in order to meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment
Team player who can collaborate with other departments within the organization
