Software Engineer - Web Developer Job Opening in Milwaukee, Wisconsin - An application developer at GS is responsible for more than crafting quality code. RESPONSIBILITIES:
Handle all aspects of application design, development and maintenance, including: requirements gathering, technical design, programming, QA testing, documentation, and deployment
Understand the benefits of the various design methodologies and object-oriented environments
Communicate effectively with fellow team members to identify project needs and evaluate smart, efficient, and scalable programming solutions
Research technology trends, programming languages, and other relevant areas for company and personal growth
Understand browser and operating system compatibility issues
Continually seek opportunities to increase customer satisfaction and deepen client relationships
Identify ways to improve code maintainability, productivity of the team, and ability of our products to exceed our client expectations
QUALIFICATIONS:
Have experience developing and supporting websites
Familiar with web programming languages like Python, and JavaScript
Have worked with Django or other Python web frameworks
Strong Python skills, or similar language but a desire to learn Python
Know some things about Javascript programming
Can defend best practices for programming, debugging, testing and maintainability of code
Enjoy solving challenging problems and have a mind for logic and algorithmic programming
Willing to challenge existing ideas and learn from failures
Ability to understand the needs of many and account for them in the final result
An appreciation for making the best product, not the cheapest product
Hate whiteboard code challenges, but like to the best tool for the job at hand
BONUS EXPERIENCE:
React, JavaScript frameworks
Automated deploy tools like Fabric, Ansible
Version control such as Git or SVN
Agile development and bug trackers like JIRA
Maintaining or contributing to Open Source projects
Unit testing your code (Python, JavaScript)
You have a preference for Linux distros
Linux server administration on a VPS, or service like AWS
Continuous integration, deployment and automated server configuration
