JOB ANNOUNCEMENT
POSITION TITLE : Medical Coder/Biller - PT
STATUS: Non-Exempt, Eligible for overtime
LOCATION: Reno
POSTING PERIOD: April 27, 2017- May 27, 2017
SALARY: Competitive
POSITION: Under the supervision of the Executive Director, this position will be responsible for thoroughly examining patient records and assigning appropriate codes/ processing of all data entry and related functions to ensure accurate and timely billing and collections. Duties include, but are not limited to interpreting medical procedure codes explaining patient bills, and assisting with billing discrepancy/issues.
EXAMPLES OF WORK:
Generate inpatient or outpatient records based on treatment procedures and diagnostic codes.
Determine appropriate CPT and procedure codes to submit billing claims to insurance providers within specific deadlines.
Keep track of medical records to document improvement or deterioration in condition; Evaluate quality of care.
Comb through files to look for preexisting conditions.
Ensure that providers follow the requirements of laws regarding medical records.
Determine the best possible payment source for healthcare services provided, which may include government, state and county programs, health insurance, private monthly payments and/or uncompensated care.
Accurately track and post charges for all services provided within the clinic.
Submit billing claims to insurance providers within specific deadlines.
Collect delinquent accounts by establishing payment arrangements with patients; monitoring payments and following up with patients when payment lapses occur.
Maintain bad-debt cost report by tracking billings; monitoring collections and compiling information.
Maintain files and contracts as required to document claims submitted, contractual amounts, and funds received.
Work with Fiscal Officer to ensure proper posting and reconciliation of medical, dental, and other equipment use charges.
Collaborate with Fiscal Officer to generate monthly revenue reports for Board of Directors.
Assist clients with inquiries regarding benefits, insurance payments, and Explanation of Benefit forms.
Protect patient rights by maintaining confidentiality of personal and financial information.
Work with private and group health insurance plans to identify contractual rates for services provided and ensure that proper payment has been issued according to contractual rates.
Perform all other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES :
Working knowledge of: Medical terminology; interpretation of ICD-10/x and CPT codes; advanced computer skills, basic accounting skills; effective customer and personal service practices and telephone etiquette; standard office procedures, practices and methods; principles and procedures of filing and/or record keeping; work processing software; data entry techniques; English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation.
Skill in: Giving full attention to what people are saying, taking time to understand the concerns and asking questions as appropriate; talking to patients to convey information effectively; teaching others how to do something; managing one?s own time and the time of others; communicating effectively in writing as appropriate; use of a computer and various software programs and the use of various office equipment.
Ability to: Speak clearly so others can understand you; listen and communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; communicate information so clinical staff will understand; arrange duties according to priority needs and/or deadlines; enter data into a software program at a speed necessary for successful job performance and resolve data discrepancies
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience & Training Guidelines:
Graduation from high school or equivalent education and two (2) years of medical coding/billing; OR any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities to be successful in this position.
Licensure: Must possess a valid Nevada Driver?s License, provide proof of a good driving record; and be capable of being insured to operate a motor vehicle.
Physical Demands:
Work is performed in a standard medical office environment. May require sitting and/or standing for prolonged periods of time; moderate or light lifting of objects up to 25 pounds; dexterity in use of hands and fingers in times of extended use of a computer keyboard in data entry and/or repetitive correspondence or documents; exposure to computer screens. Use of modern office equipment including: telephone, computers, printers, scanners, calculators, photocopiers, fax and postage machines, recorders, time clocks, etc.
CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT: Employment will be contingent upon completion of a pre-employment drug screen and fingerprinted criminal background check with satisfactory results, the cost of which is paid by the employee.
