At IntuiTap Medical, we are eliminating the guesswork, frustration, and pain from spinal punctures?procedures that are fraught with inaccuracy and inefficiencies. Our handheld, easy-to-use device combines non-radiative imaging and needle guidance to enable accurate spinal-needle placements for lumbar punctures, spinal anesthesia, and epidurals.
Summary
This is a technical role in a fast-paced, medical-device startup environment, responsible for supporting the core technology throughout all phases of development. The candidate will collaborate with the development team to design, develop, and test a biomechanical imaging system. The ideal candidate will apply a deep knowledge of sensor technologies to optimize the sensing platform, integrating system components, developing and executing experimental protocols, and communicating technical findings. This is a full-time position, located in the team?s engineering headquarters at Insight Accelerator Labs (IALabs) in Chicago.
Principal Responsibilities
Leads technical activities supporting research and development of a biomechanical imager.
Applies knowledge of sensor principles to optimize design and configuration of sensing system.
Participates in development and integration of supporting components, including software, firmware, electronics, and hardware, with attention to usability and manufacturability.
Communicates sensor design and specifications to manufacturer.
Collaborates with R&D Product Engineering Manager and development team to mitigate technical risks.
Supports development of functional prototypes for testing.
Develops experimental protocols and establishes technical endpoints for testing.
Works with test engineer to execute bench tests, and analyze and report results.
Offers technical assistance during usability and cadaver studies.
Regularly communicates technical findings to product- and teams.
Contributes to DHF assembly and maintenance.
Supports intellectual property through generation and documentation of patentable concepts.
Prepares technological content for publications and grant submissions.
Keeps abreast of latest developments related to the core technology.
Qualifications
Required
BS or higher in relevant engineering discipline, such as mechanical, electrical, or biomedical
Minimum of 3yrs engineering experience in relevant field
Deep knowledge of sensing technologies (tactile sensing highly preferred)
Demonstrated experience with sensor development and testing
Programming proficiency (Python or MATLAB/Simulink highly desired)
Familiarity with R&D for medical technologies
Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to effectively communicate with non-technical audience
Preferred
Background in robotics and other complex electromechanical systems
Hands-on hardware and/or software development experience in medical imaging
Experience in circuit construction and PCB design
Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks preferred)
Experience interfacing with sensor manufacturers
Familiarity with regulatory and quality systems for medical devices
Job Type: Full-time
Salary: $50,000.00 to $70,000.00 /year
