Job Duties: * Monitor patients' progress and adjust treatments accordingly * Develop or implement treatment plans for problems such as stuttering, delayed language, disorders, swallowing disorders or inappropriate pitch or harsh voice problems, based on own assessments and recommendations of physicians, psychologists, or other health professions * Write reports and maintain proper documentation of information or billing records or caseload activities, including the initial evaluation, treatment, progress, and discharge of clients * Participate in and write reports for meetings regarding patients' progress * Evaluate speech and language test results, barium swallow results, or medical or background information to diagnose and plan treatment for speech, language, fluency, voice, or swallowing disorders * Instruct clients and families in techniques for more effective communication, such as sign language, lip reading, or voice improvement * Administer speech and language evaluations, tests, or examinations to patients to collect information on type and degree of impairments, using written or oral tests or special instruments * Educate patients and family members about various topics, such as communication techniques or strategies to cope with or to avoid personal misunderstandings, improve communication * Other duties as assigned to facilitate the successful operation of the facility (i.e. compliance, training, cleaning, maintenance, and support)
Educational Requirements and Licensing or Other Special Certifications Required: Graduate of an approved Speech-Language & Hearing Pathology program and is eligible for a certificate of clinical competence in Speech-Language and Audiology granted by the ASHALicensed to practice Speech-Language & Audiology in the state of Kansas
Working Conditions:
Setting includes hospital May include some weekend call. Mixed Caseload
Physical Requirements: Physical requirements may include sitting or standing in a stationary position, moving about the clinical setting, use of hands and fingers to treat clients and record progress, positioning self to assist patients. SLPs will exchange and communicate information with patients.
