RTI International?s technical and scientific staff conduct health research and provide technical services to improve health in the U.S. and around the globe. We are seeking experienced candidates to support our work to improve the human condition for military populations.
RTI is seeking a Geneticist certified in clinical molecular genetics, clinical biochemical genetics or clinical cytogenetics to facilitate and support collaboration on Air Force Medical Support (AFMS) priority research and development. This position is based at the Defense Health Headquarters in Falls Church, Virginia.
Responsibilities:
Develop reports, responses to queries, justifications, and background papers for various SG5M personalized medicine and genomic medicine initiatives.
Provide genomic subject matter expertise to maintain systems for Personalized Medicine programs .
Provide subject matter expertise regarding the integration of genomic data into the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system
Provide genomic subject matter expertise and collaborate with Defense Health Agency (DHA) Health Information Technology (HIT) regarding Air Force and DHA Information Assurance.
Apply genetic expertise to the analysis of data.
Perform extensive and comprehensive literature review of existing programs, policies, and compiled research initiatives to include support in bioinformatics, genomic education, analysis of commercial and government off-the-shelf resources related to various scientific topics.
Study, analyze, and review, clinical practice standards and guidelines to aid in the development of genomic medicine projects, and guide implementation into the MHS.
Advise AFMS on research initiatives and SME-level review of research proposals.
Provide review and analysis of personalized medicine technologies to enhance AFMS personalized medicine clinical and research efforts.
Bring awareness of federal, state, and local policies as it pertains to human subject protections, and other regulatory issues to the AFMS.
Participate in meetings as genetics Subject Matter Expert (SME) in support of the AFMS. Provide summaries and after action reports based on the outcomes of these interactions.
Provide Quarterly Genomic Reports to include state of clinical integration, AFMS/MHS gap analysis, law, policies and regulation analyses, and current industry and academia updates and comprehensive review of the peer-reviewed literature.
Provide Annual Genomic Reports to include state of clinical integration, AFMS/MHS gap analysis, law, policies and regulation analyses, and current industry and academia updates and comprehensive review of the peer-reviewed literature.
Provide subject matter expertise regarding the study and clinical integration of Personalized Healthcare in the Air Force.
Provide subject matter expertise to evaluate integration of genetic testing and analysis of pharmacogenomics interventions.
Facilitate and support collaboration on AFMS priority research and development topics within AFMSA/SG5M (including but not limited to academia, industry, Services, government agencies, etc.). Providing summaries and after action reports based on the outcomes of these interactions.
Requirements and Qualifications:
Board Eligible/Board Certified (BE/BC) pathologist (M.D., D.O or M.D./PhD) certified in molecular genetic pathology, or BE/BC doctoral degree (Ph.D.) in Genetics with a minimum of five (5) years demonstrated experience in genomics research (clinical or translational).
Applicants require a proven track record of research experience in the genomics or genetics field in large academic/research centers, a minimum of five (5) publications in indexed, peer-reviewed journals in the field of genetics/genomics is highly encouraged; applicants with clinically oriented publications will be given priority.
Applicants must show appropriate experience in research management and policy by having served as an IRB voting member, study coordinator or program manager of industry or NIH-funded clinical trials for at least 2 years.
The Applicant requires demonstrated knowledge of professional biological sciences principles, practices, techniques, and procedures that apply to the genetics specialty; likewise, knowledge of the missions, roles, functions, organizational structures, and operation of the organizations that govern, interface with, and/or influence the DoD mission is highly preferred. Clinical experience is highly valued, as such; PhD candidates must demonstrate proficiency in understanding the nuances and challenges of applying genomic medicine to a clinical context. Interested individuals must be familiar with large scale research projects in genomic medicine and must be able to apply subject matter knowledge to the high-level analysis and integration of genomic sequencing into clinical medicine.
Experience working within the Federal Government system (e.g., as military, civilian employee or government contactor) preferred. Government security clearance desirable.
Ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing in English.
