General Description :
The Senior Software Engineer will provide software expertise to the commissioning and rollout of new control systems and troubleshoot and solve software related issues as required. The senior software engineer is also responsible for the developing software utilities and tools to assist with the troubleshooting and support of control software.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Assisting the technical support team to solve software related control system issues
Developing software utilities and tools to assist with the troubleshooting and support of control software
Training technical support staff on new control system software
Working in a highly team-oriented environment using an Agile SCRUM software development model
Customize and configure control software for use with specific oilfield equipment
Understanding our customer's environment and industry to design software that they will love using
Simulating full fleets of equipment to create test environments by combining virtual machines with custom hardware simulation utilities
Occasional travel in Canada and the US for on-site troubleshooting or to assist with commissioning prototype control systems
Design, develop and test system interfaces utilizing various computer languages
Working with customers and/or operators for requirements gathering including operational and functional details
Research and prototyping new technologies for application in our control systems
Work with hardware engineers to mesh hardware and software into an exception control experience
Manage time while juggling multiple projects and working within tight deadlines; provide sound time estimates to major stakeholders
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to relate effectively with all disciplines at all levels of the company
Skilled in programming using C#, C++, and VB6 in both Windows and Unix environments
Familiar with Agile SCRUM software methodology
Worked with SQL, XML, Crystal Reports
Knowledge of Real Time Operating Systems (RTOS) and low level protocols (CAN bus, Modbus)
Motivated self-starter who can manage their time effectively
Have a good understanding of real world electrical sensors and hardware (transducers, A/D input devices, analog outputs, etc.)
Minimum Required Education, Credentials, Licenses and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
5+ years oilfield experience working in software development
5+ years' experience working on surface equipment control systems
