Position Summary
The Staff Accountant is responsible for applying accounting principles and procedures to analyze financial information and to prepare accurate and timely financial reports.

Essential
Prepares budget proposals, modification and renewal budgets for both private and public funders.
Conducts monthly budget vs actuals review to effectively manage the financial activities of each grant and assure that all activities fall within funder and agency guidelines.
Assists with accurate and timely financial reports and statements related to various government grants.
Review and prepare timely voucher and year end close out packages timely.
Reconciles assigned grants on a consistent and timely basis; maintains complete and accurate grant files.
Assists with Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable processes, performing journal entries and account reconciliations.
Reconciles receivables and income earned from public and private sources.
Assist in monthly and year-end closings.
Attends trainings in order to be informed of any changes in funders' requirements.
Assist, train, and communicate with program staff on proper coding of expenditures and ensures proper coding of expenses for government grants.
Monthly communicate and analysis with program staff on the status and reporting of government grants as assigned.
Performs other duties and projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in accounting required
Minimum 2-3 years of accounting/finance experience
Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP required)
Skills/Abilities
Strong critical thinking and analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracy
Excellent oral and written communication skills required
Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines
Strong organization and project management skills
Strong decision making ability and initiative
Capable of being a team player but still work independently
Advanced skill level with Microsoft Excel and Word highly preferred
Experience with Financial Edge and QuickBooks preferred
Must be open to and desire new challenges and evolving priorities
