Grants Accountant Job Opening in Boston, Massachusetts - Job Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and hands-on Grants Accountant who is excited to join a small team to make a big impact. This role works closely school leaders to support the management, implementation and accounting of private-funded programs to foster student achievement.
The Grants Accountant will support grant spending and implementation (including payroll), which includes close collaboration with schools leaders to oversee disbursement requests for all spending, track budgets and prepare report writing. It will also perform and supervise accounting tasks for program reporting. This position is comfortable with the development of grant administration tools and use of accounting software.
Responsibilities:
Accounting
Monitor revenue in our bank accounts and post related entries (approx. 25/week.)
Process grants? disbursements and payments as requested by school leaders (approx. 100/week.)
Oversee funds? activities and accounting balances.
Administration
Oversee contractors? agreements and compliance.
Collaborate with the team to develop and refine effective internal controls and procedures.
Collaborate in internal projects to improve the effectiveness of the organization?s work and to increase fundraising capacity at the school level.
Perform all payroll tasks, including reporting to authorities using payroll software, oversee benefits administration for full time staff and communications to part time employees.
Grants Management
Oversee budgets and spending to support program implementation, including communication with school leaders, administrators and funders.
Collaborate in the implementation of our grants management tool and its interface to our accounting records.
Produce grant reporting for internal reviews; support the grant reporting process to external funders.
Qualifications
Candidates should enjoy working in a fast-paced, collaborative, results-oriented and entrepreneurial environment. A successful candidate will possess:
Bachelor?s degree required; preferably in accounting, business, or related field.
At least 3 years of professional experience, preferably in the non-profit or education sector.
Master knowledge of Microsoft suite, especially excel
Working knowledge of accounting software, i.e. Quickbooks or Sage 50. Quickbooks online is preferred
Ability to read and apply accounting policies
Strong analytic, planning skills, keen attention to details
High level of personal responsibility, initiative, and motivation with strong organizational skills, ability to move projects forward and be persistent
Strong oral and written communication skills, particularly in translating grant information into easy-to-interpret, actionable reports, guidance documents, presentations, and findings.
Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills, aptitude for working with a wide range of individuals
Salary will be commensurate with background and experience.
