This position is based out of the corporate office located in Washougal, Washington.
Job Description:
The Marine Construction Safety Specialist position is a full-time, permanent position.
The Marine Construction Safety Specialist will assist the Corporate Safety Manager in the development, maintenance, and improvement of Ballard?s Safety Management System in addition to providing safety support and assistance for national management groups. This position involves the performance of onsite safety inspections, audits, training, program and policy development, project safety planning and safety submittals. The Marine Construction Safety Specialist will assist corporate and national management groups with inspections, incident recordkeeping and investigation, tracking and reporting of corporate and national branch safety performance indicators, safety pre-qualifications, safety variances, and corrective actions.
This position will report directly to the Corporate Safety Manager and will consist of time spent in an office and field setting. This position will require travel up to 25% of the year, and may, on occasion, require more frequent travel up to 50% of the year, depending on current safety and compliance needs.

Essential Duties and Functions:
Promote compliance through auditing and targeted improvement of the Safety Management System.
Promote employee engagement through employee incentive programs and initiatives.
Coach personnel to develop safe behaviors, habits and attitudes consistent with company policy and procedure.
Support and improve trending and tracking methods to evaluate safety management system efficacy.
Provide support to national operations groups to ensure a high level of compliance and engagement at company facilities and work sites.
Conduct regular site visits and maintain frequent interaction with field personnel.
Produce clear and concise inspection/audit documentation, inclusive of deficient items, recommendations for correction, and correction timeframes in a timely and transparent manner.
Utilize inspection/audit findings to identify and implement program improvements.
Provide technical support and/or resources for the company safety committee and participate in committee recruitment based on employee interactions and observations.
Produce clear and concise high-level summary reviews for executive management staff.
Conduct monthly safety meetings with national operations groups.
Assist with the planning, development and presentation of corporate safety performance reviews.
Produce and distribute safety publications and literature in support of the safety program.
Assist with development of and provide employee training in support of the safety program.
Support national management groups with incident investigations and root cause analysis following any incidents involving company personnel, equipment or jobsites.
Assist national management groups with injury and incident management, which many include communications and coordination with insurance providers for Workers Compensation claims.
Assist with all aspects of health and safety paperwork, record keeping and retention and may assist with related HR paperwork as needed.
Respond to phone calls, texts and emails in a friendly, helpful and timely manner, and assist team members and clients with safety and health related issues or inquiries.
Attend client, project or industry meetings and functions as needed, in support of the safety program.
Required Qualifications:
Minimum five (5) years safety experience in the construction or marine industries; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Working knowledge of OSHA standards and regulations, working knowledge of EM385-1-1 preferred.
Proficiency in MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate with varying personalities.
Possess a strong attention to detail and superior organizational skills.
Ability to establish relationships and achieve desired results.
Ability to self-manage tasks, work pace, productivity and project deadlines.
Proven experience in training delivery and/or public speaking.
Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality, solid sense of ethics and morality.
Ability to work in a team environment and assist co-workers with other duties as required.
Ability to understand human motivators and stressors and communicate accordingly.
Applicants must have dependable transportation and be capable of flight on various types of aircraft.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to remain out of doors for long periods of time in various seasons and conditions.
Ability to climb ladders and stairs, work at heights, and walk/stand on uneven surfaces.
Ability to work from a barge, pier, vessel, shore, etc.
Ability to sit, stand, kneel, squat, push, pull, etc. for varying amounts of time.
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds for short distances.
Ability to drive long distances, into remote areas, at various times of day, and in various weather conditions.
Ability to wear personal protective clothing and equipment including, but not limited to, respiratory and fall protection.
Salary: DOE ($50,000 - $70,000)
