Controller Job Opening in Lake in the Hills, Illinois - Sunset Logistics is currently looking for a Controller to oversee the accounting functions and financial reporting for our company. Sunset is an exciting, fast growing company that provides hauling and logistics to many markets including waste transfers and construction aggregates. We also mine aggregates through our affiliated entities.
Minimum Qualifications
Five years of related controller experience.
Extensive knowledge in financial reporting and analysis and accounting department management.
Excellent computer skills and experience with MS Word, MS Excel and various accounting solutions.
Must be highly organized, able to handle multiple tasks, and meet varying deadlines.
Bachelor's Degree, Field of Study Preferred: Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration
Strong technical accounting skills.
Experience in aggregate mining operations and/or hauling logistics is a plus.
Excellent written and verbal communication, problem solving and organizational skills. Duties will Include: Manage Accounting Department
Manage productivity and accuracy of daily accounting operations including: Accounts Receivable and Billing, Accounts Payable, Payroll, as well as other departments financial data.
Oversee the accurate reporting of sales and use tax filings. Recruiting, Training & Developing
Recruit, hire and train accounting personnel
Conduct consistent timely performance reviews of accounting staff Establish Best Practices
Provide advice and training to the departmental and executive management regarding key financial and business decisions.
Assist in the selection and spearhead the implementation of a new ?Best in Class? company wide accounting solution.
Actively participate with CFO and accounting staff to improve processes, develop new financial system applications and upgrade existing applications.
Provide corporate finance with information necessary to support corporate level analysis and bench marking initiatives.
Develop and implement control systems to ensure protection of corporate assets and resources.
Educate management and staff on financial processes/policies and the financial impact of business and operational decision.
Focus on cost controlling and reduction initiatives and ensure that unfavorable variances are addressed in a timely manner.
Safeguard company assets with timely, accurate reporting
Anticipate business requirements to ensure the processes and procedures grow with the business
Help facilitate partnership with insurance agents to minimize risk and ensure proper coverage.
Coordinate audits, provide support to independent insurance auditors Financial Reporting and Analysis
Prepare financial and operational reports and analysis to support the business decision making process.
Coordinate, support and manage the budgeting, forecasting and planning processes.
Direct the development, preparation and maintenance of various financial and operational plans and reports.
Track and monitor budgets, capture accurate job costing
Produce and develop monthly and quarterly financials KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Ability to analyze business conditions and build partnerships across functions.
Ability to be responsive and persuasive at all levels of the organization.
Effective communication and analytical skills.
Strong knowledge in process costing and job costing solutions.
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects / priorities.
