Fiscal Services- Accountant II
Salary: $45,684.34 - $59,122.70 (2017 Wage Scale)
Job Description: Under the supervision of the Community Mental Health (CMH) Financial Manager, performs financial analysis and accounting functions required to ensure the fiscal integrity for CMH funds. Demonstrates logical thinking in order to gather and analyze a variety of information for informed planning and decision-making within CMH. Maintains the general ledger for the department, ensuring accurate documentation of, and accounting for, all general ledger transactions and budgets. Coordinates accounts payable and purchasing for the department within established County policies. Prepares monthly financial report for the CMH Board and other financial reports when necessary. Prepares audit work papers and assists external auditors as requested.
This is a full-time, benefited position in the Fiscal Services Department working directly within the CMH offices based at the James Street Campus in Holland, MI.
Requirements: The qualified candidate will have the following knowledge and skills:
Thorough working knowledge of standard accounting theory, principles and practices.
Experience supervising accounting staff including establishing work assignments, identifying, training and development opportunities, and administering policies and procedures.
Working knowledge of the principles and practices of fund accounting.
Knowledge of statutory and other legally mandated standards governing public sector accounting and auditing practices and financial accountability, including GAAP and GASB.
Working knowledge of accounts payable practices and procedures.
Computer literacy, including thorough working knowledge of spreadsheet, database, accounting and accounts payable applications software.
Good analytical, quantitative, organizational and supervisory skills.
Required Education, Training and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution in accounting, finance, public finance or closely related field combined with two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in fund accounting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
