Quality Manager Job Opening in Shelbyville, Indiana - Position Summary: The purpose of this position is to provide leadership and direction to the quality control department at the plant. The primary responsibility of the department is to assure the outgoing quality of the products manufactured at the plant through the inspection and auditing procedures.
Technical Skill Requirements:
Associate degree in the quality sciences, engineering, operations management or other relevant field or equivalent professional experience in a manufacturing environment
4-6 years professional experience in a quality control or quality assurance position, within a manufacturing environment (automotive industry is preferred)
Understanding of technical specifications of products and deep understanding of quality principles, processes and procedures
Familiarity with automotive manufacturing principles
Strong attention to detail and uncompromising commitment to producing quality products for the customer
Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills
Impeccable honesty and integrity

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide direction and support to quality control staff (lead and departmental auditors)
Provide support to implementation and continuation of total quality system
Oversight of procedural changes
Selection of testing methodologies and schedule
Review and approve internal quality documentation
Provide training and communication, as needed
Provide planning for the quality control department
Budget preparation, planning of initiatives, resource allocation, goal setting and prioritization of programs
Liaison planning and associated documentation preparation
Meet with suppliers and customers to discuss quality standards and issues
Attend meetings in which internal and external quality concerns are discussed
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
Tracking new project audits
Other projects and duties, as assigned
Revising new Quality Commitment plan
Develop and evaluate subordinates
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position has direct supervisory responsibilities for the following positions: Group Leaders, Quality Technicians, Lead Associates, and Associates. Duties include planning work for subordinates, observing performance, appraising, developing, coaching and holding subordinates accountable for results.

Contacts
The incumbent spends approximately 15-50% of his/her time developing and maintaining business contacts within the organization and up to 15% of his/her time with external contacts. The purpose of these contacts is to plan the implementation of corrective actions, communicate quality concerns and issues, meet with customers or suppliers to establish quality standards, discuss quality issues with customers and suppliers, identify scrap material and to implement preventative countermeasures.
Working Conditions
This position occupies an open-office environment located on the production floor. Exposure to weather elements is not likely. Incumbents are not likely to drive a vehicle while performing job responsibilities. Incumbents spend approximately 60% sitting, 10% standing and 30% walking in the course of this position and are unlikely to lift anything greater than 40 pounds. Incumbents will use the following office machines while performing job duties: computer, printer, copier, fax, telephone, calculator, calipers, micrometers, scale/taper gauge, height gauge, and a push test machine. Also uses the Quality Manual, QC work instructions, QC procedure manual, supplier Quality manuals, JIS manuals, and customer engineering S & D manuals.
