Engineering and Performance Manager Job Opening in Sullivan, Indiana - POSITION SUMMARY
Contributes to achieving functional area/corporate goals and objectives in a cost effective manner though effective planning, design, construction, testing and acceptance of Merom Generating Station projects. Directs activities of station engineering staff. Collaborates with Operations, Maintenance, Outage and Construction Management, and Asset Management at Merom in the evaluation of operational and business performance to initiate and evaluate improvement projects. Directs monitoring and reporting of station efficiency and reliability performance.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Directs activities of Power Production Engineers to coordinate with operations and maintenance to effectively achieve station goals concerning reliability, efficiency and competitive position, while complying with environmental standards and maintaining a safe work environment.
Coordinates Merom Generating Station Work Plan Capital and Expense project activities with Asset Management, including project initiation, justification, development, prioritization and implementation.
Evaluates, justifies and submits for approval all plant betterment projects; ensures compliance with applicable engineering codes and standards.
Reviews and evaluates station performance from cost, efficiency and reliability perspectives; reporting performance and recommending methods and/or projects to improve performance.
Assures that effective work scopes and specifications are prepared to allow competitive bidding of contracted work activities or that accurate and justifiable reasons are documented to explain the absence of competitive bidding.
Directs engineering support; including technical assistance, drawing support and standards interpretation; to other departments.
Directs efforts of predictive and condition-based maintenance programs.
Directs the collection and reporting of required Generation Availability System data; utilizing the data to determine and evaluate cause and impacts to station reliability and develop recommendations to remediate these impacts.
Initiates research, investigation and root cause analysis of equipment failures or chronic operational problems in order to develop and recommend solutions to enhance reliability, productivity and reduce costs.
Ensures compliance with environmental permits or standards within departmental responsibilities.
Tracks and evaluates project and expense activities as to schedule, forecasting and costs.
Works with Accounting to monitor costs and interpret cost reports to allow station personnel to adjust activities to meet budgetary goals.
Develops recommendations for the station?s goals; track goals results and communicates results as well as actions that could positively influence outcomes to station staff.
Provides data and communicates station activities and results to external individuals or groups as needed to support Hoosier Energy initiatives and business strategies, including conducting tours of the station.
Evaluates and selects supporting contracted services as related to engineering needs.
Coordinates execution and documentation of field projects.
Provides training, advice and developmental guidance to engineering staff to allow them a broader perspective of the business and improve the station?s depth of personnel resources.
Directs maintenance and upkeep of stations drawings, manuals and technical library.
Works with other departments to develop alignment of station goals and objectives with broader corporate strategies.
Maintains knowledge of plant and industry technology developments and equipment issues.
Performs other duties as assigned.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Education:
Bachelor?s Degree in Engineering or related field
Professional Engineer designation preferred
Experience:
10 years? progressive related technical experience relating to engineering, including 5 years? in a supervisory capacity
