Sr. Electronics Engineer, Operations Job Opening in Glenwood, Illinois - Landauer, Inc., a global leader in radiation sciences, is looking for passionate and creative candidates to assist in the design and development of embedded electronics in monitoring equipment, including a new, innovative, smart wearable device for monitoring radiation exposure.
The Electronics Engineer in the Manufacturing Engineering department is responsible for assisting in the design, development, testing and validation of embedded systems (hardware and firmware) for electronic monitoring and automated manufacturing equipment, including new, intelligent, wireless-enabled, wearable sensor devices. This position requires coordinating efforts between product development and Sustaining Engineering departments in order to drive the development and implementation of hardware and firmware for products that incorporate robotics automation, multiple sensors (motion, temperature, humidity, etc), system controllers, wireless communications, and on-board power management and data analysis algorithms.

Responsibilities include:
Develop and design test capability for electronic products internally and at vendor locations
Provide training and troubleshooting at vendor sites related to the electronic product testing and software programming
Technical contact for both internal and outside vendors
Perform various electronics circuit design, analysis, and testing for both current and future Landauer products
Work with contract design houses and make recommendations necessary to launch the products in high volume
Support all phases of product development that includes scoping and project planning, assessing feasibility, identifying and de-risking technical elements, developing and validating product specifications, determining system architecture, detailed circuit design, testing, design validation, and manufacturing support.
Design custom electronics performing schematic capture, source new components, perform circuit analysis, implement or direct printed circuit board layout, develop test plans and validate reliability and performance.
Scope and determine work breakdown on projects, identify high-risk elements and plan and perform rapid prototyping or technical feasibility studies
Coordinate and collaborate with other departments, program management, and other engineering disciplines.
Test, validate and trouble-shoot automated manufacturing equipment (including analog and digital electronics).
Trouble-shoot existing embedded firmware systems.
Develop test protocols and implement them using software (PC), firmware and electronic toolsets.
Assist in developing circuit designs and board-level electronics.
Assist in developing firmware for embedded system devices, including running Unit Tests on embedded firmware modules.
Prepare technical reports and documentation for all activities as needed.
Lead FMEA activities to develop a plan for high volume launch
Requirements for the position:
Bachelor's or Masters in Engineering (Electrical, Electronics or Computer Science) is necessary to perform the functions of this position
5+ years of experience in analog/digital electronic development, preferably in consumer/medical electronics
Expert understanding of electrical engineering fundamentals;
Experience with mixed signal instrumentation and control systems
Programming knowledge in LabVIEW, Test software?s
Good understanding of design for manufacturing and design for test (DFT) requirements
Hands on experience with Test Instrumentation
Ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines
Experience in software development
Ability to use PCB design tools;
Experience writing embedded systems firmware in C/C++;
Ability to communicate clearly and in a timely fashion;
Ability to work independently and creatively, while collaborating closely with a diverse team of technical experts and business professionals;
Ability to lift up to 45 lbs.
Up to 20% travel both domestic and international
Additional skills desired:
Knowledge of embedded systems firmware for battery-powered sensors;
Experience with 802.11 and BLE wireless platforms;
Experience with ARM core platform;
Experience with healthcare devices is desired but not required;
Experience with C/C++ and java in a windows and Linux environment;
