Systems Development Manager Job Opening in Salt Lake City, Utah - In business for over 60 years, Sentinel Security Life Insurance Company is a rapidly growing insurer of life, accident, health and Medicare supplement insurance as well as underwriting annuities and other financial products. We are currently seeking a Systems Development Manager whose main responsibilities will be to envision system development and manage projects through completion; manage system development projects from initial design through testing while providing strategic management direction. THIS POSITION WOULD REQUIRE A MOVE TO SLC, UTAH AND RELOCATION ASSISTANCE WOULD BE PROVIDED .
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Exercises independent judgment and discretion in overall systems project management by prioritizing, planning and tracking project progress.
Designs, develops and modifies programs, including prototypes.
Researches product development options and provides analysis for product direction.
Consults with internal departments to identify customer needs and include into project objectives. Provides support regarding product development to internal departments.
Manages and directs software developers. Evaluates employee performance, sets expectations and goals for department and individual staff members, recruits, disciplines and trains staff.
Creates related documentation.
Develop new systems with an emphasis on minimized maintenance requirements, as well as maintain and enhance existing systems. Systems analysis design and debugging of new systems.
Trouble-shoot problems with existing systems.
Report and update the status of projects and work assignments.
Proactively learn and utilize new technologies, concepts and procedures as appropriate to project requirements.
Provide technical input to other areas and gather technical data from outside organizations.
Plan and execute testing and implementation of major systems.
Contribute to project plans and support their implementation.
Develop, implement and test all system implementations within customer area or within information technology.
Performs analysis and makes recommendations in areas that require a high level of technical competency.
Designs data bases and data dictionary criteria.
Performs a variety of complex programming tasks, such as designing, documenting, and coding program logic.
Provides technical training, guidance, and resource support for end users and Departmental staff.
Provides application support and enhancements to existing applications. Defines system requirements, priorities, and viable alternatives. Coordinates the efforts of staff to locate, assess, install, test, and maintain computer software systems. Coordinates conversions and upgrades to vendor systems.
Performs as a project lead and directs systems analysts. Provides leadership and coordination on projects assigned to systems analysts.
Assumes greater leadership role, utilizing broader knowledge and high level technical skills.
Assists in developing user documentation and departmental policies and procedures that impact the use of application systems.
Performs complex systems analyst duties on a regular and continuous basis.

Experience, Education & Skills
3 ? 6 six years of experience developing systems with project management experience.
B.S. in computer science, information systems or equivalent experience.
3+ years of development on IBM i (iSeries, AS/400) OR High School Diploma / GED plus 5+ years of development on IBM i (iSeries, AS/400) using all of the following: RPG, RPGIV, RPG-ILE, RPG-Free, SQL and CL
3+ years of application design and writing technical design documents
3+ years experience in full Software Development Life Cycle
Must have ability to exercise independent judgment in planning, organizing, and performing systems analyst tasks. Some independent judgment required in setting priorities of tasks among multiple assigned projects.
Must have ability to communicate, motivate, and organize projects among a broad spectrum of personnel throughout the network, frequently under deadline pressure.
