Staff Accountant Job Opening in Williston, North dakota - DESCRIPTION: Under general direction of the Finance Director performs basic accounting duties in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Assists with the day-to day, monthly, and year-end operations of the Finance Department including grant management.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES : The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities performed by incumbents in this position. Incumbents may not be required to perform all duties in this description, and incumbents may be required to perform position-specific tasks other than those listed in this job description.
Coordinates the accounting functions related to grants including monitoring/tracking the status of each grant through its life cycle and preparing fiscal reports for timely submission and reviewing or directing all accounting entries related to grants or restricted funds
Tracks and maintains reimbursements of County funds
Maintains general ledger to include the preparation of journal entries, accounts analysis and reconciliation to assess accuracy, completeness, and conformance with GAAP and County Financial Policies
Maintains and improves existing chart of accounts
Assists and reconciles payroll to include maintenance of records, processing paychecks and preparing quarterly and year end payroll reports
Performs accounts payable duties such as verifying all invoices for payment, ensuring expenditures are charged to appropriate accounts, and proper documentation is in place
Assists with year-end preparation of W2s and 1099s
Assists in Maintaining accounting records for fixed assets
Assists outside auditors to include preparing schedules, invoices, providing explanation of supporting materials and procedures, and preparing any other necessary data
Assists in annual budget preparation as well as variance reporting throughout the year
Recommends, designs, and implements any necessary department controls
Maintains confidentiality of non-public records and makes available all data and information deemed a public record by the North Dakota Century Code
May perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor
TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or equivalent
Preferable two years of experience or more
Must possess a valid North Dakota Driver's License or equivalent
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION:
Knowledge of GAAP as well as budgeting, reporting, taxation and revenue activities
Knowledge of computerized accounting system, ability to work with detail, and excellent organizational skills
Analytical thinking skills
Ability to work independently as well as in a team
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
Advanced Communication skills
Compensation: Salary ranges from $22-$28/hour depending on experience and training.
