The beauty of being the iceman is in its simplicity -- the tasks at hand every day are clearly communicated and achievable. Our Route Sales Drivers are responsible for the safe operation of company vehicles and we place a premium on safe driving including financial rewards for being a safe and smart operator. Once the ice truck has been safely docked or parked at a customer location we then provide superior customer service by delivering and merchandising the ice into the appropriate merchandising equipment. Accurate invoicing and strong customer service skills set us apart from the competition.
This position is not a traditional high pressure sales delivery job where drivers are forced into making awkward or uncomfortable sales pitches to our customers; instead it is as simple as filling up the equipment to its capacity and then moving on to the next. It is a great fit for people from all walks of life however hard workers and people who enjoy a challenge tend to be the best fit. This opportunity requires regularly lifting and handling packaged ice products up to 45lbs per package by unloading inventory from delivery trucks onto hand carts into customer locations. It is physical in nature so those looking for LTL or OTR positions should perhaps look elsewhere.
Our Route Sales Drivers are courteous, focused on all aspects of safety as well as prioritizing customer service and promoting the Arctic Glacier brand. A typical day starts at 6:30 AM and concludes at a variable end time depending on customer demand. We also operate on weekends and our Route Sales Drivers are expected to work on Saturdays and some Sundays. The Icemen are also out in full force during the major Summer holidays (Memorial Day, 4th of July and Labor Day).
New to the transportation field? We also hire helpers WITHOUT CDLs and if they are a good fit we will train up staff in our trucks to obtain their CDL-B. We have an outstanding history of farming our own CDL drivers by hiring those without CDL licenses.
Candidates should have a clean driving background, the ability to pass a drug screen and have familiarity with reading and following directions, strong verbal communication skills and the desire to learn.
