On-Site Cancer Registrar, Radiation Oncology Job Opening in Boston, Massachusetts - Comply with cancer registry operations as directed by Senior Cancer Registrar and in compliance with facility needs, state and Commission on Cancer requirements. The Cancer Registrar will ensure that complete, accurate and timely data is maintained for all cancer patients diagnosed and/or treated at Boston Medical Center. Review all pertinent source documents for inclusion in the cancer registry database. Accession all patients in the registry data base with reportable diagnosis. Abstract all eligible cases no later than six months form the date of first contact. Update treatment information as necessary and required for cases accessioned into the data base. Accurately code all cancer diagnoses utilizing the ICD-O classification system and verify accurate staging utilizing the American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) staging manual. Submit eligible cases to the Massachusetts Cancer Registry at least quarterly, if directed. Perform annual follow-up on cancer patients according to current Commission on Cancer (COC) standards to provide data for outcome analysis. Maintain the required follow-up rates as defined by the COC. Submit eligible cases for all valid performance measures specified under the Rapid Quality Reporting System guidelines, as directed. Submit complete and accurate data to the National Cancer Data Base in accordance with the annual Call for Data, if directed. Participate in special studies as selected by the Commission on Cancer, if directed. Serve as alternate member of the Cancer Care Committee, if directed. Performs other duties as needed or assigned.
Certified Tumor Registrar (CTRŽ) through the National Cancer Registrars Association's (NCRA) Council.
Associate?s degree (or equivalent combination of formal education and experience).
For candidates with an Associate?s degree or coding program certificate, work requires 3 years minimum relevant healthcare experience. For candidates with high school diploma, work requires at least 5 years relevant healthcare experience.
Knowledge of medical terminology and tumor registry coding principles (e.g. ICD-0, FORDS, SEER, etc.)
Extensive knowledge and advanced education of American college of Surgeons (ACoS) and Commission on Cancer (COC) accreditation standards
Previous registry management experience
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint. Proficient with Cancer Registry System (METRIQ or equivalent).
Demonstrate excellent organizational and communication skills.
Ability to work well independently and efficiently with strong attention to detail.
Manage time effectively and prioritize workload.
Understand and adhere to institutional confidentiality guidelines at all times.
