Health Information Management (HIM) Clerk Job Description
The Health Information Management is responsible for maintaining, incorporating, and accurately accounting for all medical records at American Care.
Health Information Management (HIM) Clerk Responsibilities (This list not inclusive of all duties assigned)
The right candidate will possess the following skills and abilities:
Responsible for accessing, maintaining and auditing all medical charts; corrects and communicates problems according to established American policies and procedures.
Initiates the medical record by creating and processing the patient care record folder; scan documents and file them in patient?s medical chart in a systematic order.
Ensure that each section of the patient?s record is maintained in a neat, organized and legible format.
Answer telephone, relay messages and transfer calls as appropriate; perform clerical/technical duties: prepare, type and distribute letters, reports and other correspondence as needed.
Retrieve, deliver, and file health records daily for health care staff and clinics as needed; ensure that the guidelines for hardcopy clinical entries are met at all times.
Assist in locating, retrieving, sending, and scanning requested medical records.
Understand and follow applicable Federal and Florida State laws and regulations, professional standards, and ethical principles; comply with American Care policies and procedures to ensure patient safety and protect patient privacy and security.
Attend all scheduled meetings and required training.
Health Information Management (HIM) Clerk Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalent.
Bilingual preferred (Spanish, Creole, French, or Portuguese)
Prior 1-3 years of medical records experience in a clinical or community based setting is highly preferred.
ICD-10-CM coding a plus.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Must be computer literate with good working knowledge of medical and insurance terminology.
Must be detail oriented with ability to multitask.
