LC/MS Technologist I Job Opening in Overland Park, Kansas - The Great Plains Laboratory, Inc. (GPL) is the global leader in metabolic, environmental, and genetic testing for people with chronic illnesses and diseases.
We offer a variety of clinical tests which help diagnose underlying conditions that are not routinely available through other laboratories. GPL currently has an opening for a full time, Laboratory Technologist to join our team.
Summary
Performs medical laboratory tests, procedures, experiments, and analyses to provide data for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. The selected candidate will be responsible for preparing calibrators, QCs and samples for analysis, preparing chemical reagents and performing daily maintenance of LC-MS/MS instrumentation. This position requires strong analytical reasoning, LC-MS/MS operating experience and excellent troubleshooting capabilities in a fast-paced clinical laboratory environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Conducts chemical analyses of body fluids such as blood and urine to determine presence of normal and abnormal components.
Analyzes chromatographic and mass spectral data generated by LC-MS/MS.
Analyzes test results and enters findings in specimen database
Performs and records quality control to ensure accuracy of clinical data.
Prepares chemical reagents.
Perform daily maintenance of LC-MS/MS instruments.
Identifies problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results.
Documents all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory?s established performance specifications.
Accurately pipettes samples and reagents. Manages sample workflow.
Disposes of hazardous materials according to procedures.
Engages in medical research under direction of Laboratory Assistant Directors and Laboratory Operations Manager.
Follows Laboratory Standard Operating Procedures for all tasks.

Bachelor's degree in science or medical technology from a four-year college or university; or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. Experience operating and maintaining HPLC/UHPLC hardware such as pumps, auto samplers, columns and valves is required.
