Position Summary:
The Customer Support and Electronics Engineer is the primary interface between GlobalSim and its customers for the support and maintenance of complex, state-of-the-art simulation systems. The Customer Support and Electronics Engineer will help non-technical customers troubleshoot problems patiently and in a professional and courteous manner. The Customer Support and Electronics Engineer will coordinate and follow-up with other team members to ensure complete resolution of customer problems and concerns. The Customer Support and Electronics Engineer will also perform onsite support and service visits, assist in systems and electrical engineering, and assist in assembling simulation systems.
Principal Duties Responsibilities:
Provide technical support to internal, domestic, and international GlobalSim customers
Work as part of a team ensuring smooth transitions for customer and field reported software and hardware issues.
Assist other team members in initial system installation.
Record and update customer calls in Customer Service Call Tracking Databases in a timely and accurate manner
Work closely with customers to resolve technical issues with various components of simulation software systems and hardware platforms including:
Operating Systems (Windows)
Networking (Ethernet, CAN Bus)
Simulation application software * Monitor and track progress on customer software or hardware issues
Provide service request status updates at regular intervals and communicates status to customers using Customer Service Call Tracking Databases
Work with the production team to help assemble simulators
Represent GlobalSim in a professional manner to the customer and work professionally with other GlobalSim personnel
Travel nationally and internationally up to 30% of the time to customer sites, sometimes on short notice
Desired Education and Skills:
This position requires a wide range of technical skills to effectively service complex state-of-the-art simulation systems. The ideal candidate is not expected to be an expert in all areas, but is expected to have some exposure to the identified areas and most of all will have an aptitude to learn and understand new skills.
Education:
A four-year technical degree is preferred, but not required, with classes in electrical and software engineering being highly desirable.
Life experience that includes working with customers is desirable, especially in a technical support environment. * Technical:
Experience with computer electronics and electrical assembly
Electro-mechanical experience preferred
Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Windows architecture, services, and configuration
Computer systems architecture - Including knowledge of CPU, memory, I/O, device drivers, file systems and file system structure, and computer graphics systems
Working knowledge of TCP/IP, Ethernet addressing, mapping, flow control, naming, and computer network configuration
Knowledge of terminology, basic concepts, and experience with databases; Microsoft Sequel Server preferred
Understanding of, or some experience writing, computer software is desirable
Hands on technical skills for printed circuit board assembly, testing and diagnosis is preferred * Personal:
Ability to assess and respond appropriately to customer issues in a professional manner
Problem solving skills with the ability to tackle complex, system level problems, and dig down to the final solutions
Solid organizational, interpersonal, communication, telephone and presentations skills
Working with customers who have few technical skills is a primary aspect of the job. You will be required to work pleasantly in this situation much of the time.
Foreign language skills desirable. Comfortable in dealing with people who have English as a second language.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
