Job Description: Ensures payments are posted properly by verifying accuracy of coding and charge entry. Bills insurance carriers by inputting billing information to database; initiating electronic transmissions. Resolves disputed claims by gathering, verifying, and providing additional information; following-up on claims. Resolves discrepancies by examining and evaluating data; selecting corrective steps. Adjusts patient bills by reviewing remittance advice; consulting with office staff and insurance payers. Prepares monthly reports by summarizing charges, adjustments, and payments received. Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; keeping current on billing and reimbursement procedures. Adheres to professional standards, company policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and HIPAA standards. Processes and files claims using multiple software programs. Contacts various third party insurance payers for resolution of claims. Processes rejections, denials, self-pay and other correspondence to ensure transfer of liability to appropriate payer. Communicates effectively with other employees, independent contractors, management, third party representatives and other patient accounting personnel. Handles multiple accounts. Files appeals on denial claims in writing.
Required Skills: Must have a minimum of 2-3 years of current medical/mental health billing experience working on a WEB-BASED platform. Strong knowledge of mental/behavioral health billing - especially to obtain authorizations, use of appropriate modifiers and familiarity with terminology. Ability to multitask and easily switch between providers and different computer programs. Be able to work independently and rely on personal for problem solving. Familiar with Microsoft Excel & Word. Strong telephone skills. Excellent customer service.
Experience with various software programs - specifically: Kareo (Required), TherapyNotes (Preferred)
