Surgery Scheduler Job Opening in Burbank, California - Coordinates surgery/procedure time between patient, clinic, outpatient surgery center, and physicians
Performs Pre-certifications with insurance companies and/or government payors.
Provides pre-procdeure and post-procedure instructions to patients
Follows up with all individuals involved to communicate changes in schedule; ensures that all changes are handled in an orderly fashion
Greets patients; responds to patient questions
Collects co-payments and insurance cards/gives receipts
Prepares charts and demographics and insurance information
Manages patient flow
Answers calls, directing to appropriate individuals or departments
The Surgery Scheduler Coordinator schedules patient surgeries, outpatient procedures and performs other related surgery and procedure scheduling tasks for various medical specialties for Miracle Mile Medical Center. Depending on the needs of the department, this position may be structured as either a front-office position, with additional responsibilities of Admitting Representative that focuses on obtaining and verifying demographic information, insurance benefits and eligibility. Assigns the correct medical record and account number; therefore, providing a database which ensures accurate billing and clinical information. This position performs any and all job related duties as assigned.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Coordinates surgery/procedure time between patient, hospital/outpatient surgery center, and physician
Pre-certifies procedures with insurance company
Obtains necessary special equipment requested by physician for specific procedures
Serves as a primary contact for the patient, provides pre- and post-procedure instructions and assists with patient inquires
Works proactively to ensure that all arrangements have been made to ensure a timely and orderly environment for each surgical procedure
Follows up with all parties involved to communicate changes in schedule or place of surgery; works proactively to ensure that all changes are handled in an orderly fashion
Surgery Scheduler responsibilities will be in combination with one of the following job descriptions, depending on the needs of the department.
Admitting Representative Responsibilities (may include the following):
Greets patients; responds to patient questions and complaints
Collects co-payments and insurance cards, gives receipts, copies required information
Prepares charts and reviews and updates demographics and insurance information
Manages patient flow and maintains waiting rooms
Takes voice mail off phones; answers calls, directing to appropriate individuals or departments
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent. College Coursework or degree in Healthcare field preferred.
Minimum of 2 years experience in Surgery Scheduling.
Medical terminology preferred.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, especially in the areas of patient and physician relations.
Ability to multi-task and work independently as well as within a group in a fast paced environment.
Computer skills and proficient in Microsoft Office software programs.
Great organizational and time management skills.
Great interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Able to maintain professional demeanor.
Bilingual Spanish preferred.
