Controller / Accounting Manager Job Opening in Annapolis, Maryland - POSITION SUMMARY:
The Controller is responsible for directing the accounting functions including establishing and maintaining the company?s accounting principles, practices, procedures and initiatives. You will manage the day-to-day accounting activities, provide treasury and cash management, asset and inventory management, and complete monthly closes. Critical to success in this position is preparation of accurate financial reports and presentation of findings and recommendations to the CEO by the 15th of each month. Additional responsibilities include coordination of tax filings, preparation of the annual budget, financial modeling for new business development and routine financial analysis for all aspects of the business. You will work closely with and report directly to the CEO.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
Enhance and establish policies, procedures and controls to ensure the safeguarding of assets as well as the accuracy of the Company?s financials
Generate accurate and timely financial reports complete with analysis
Oversee operation and maintenance of General Ledger and its integration with accounts payable, billing and payroll at the corporate level as well as for individual retail stores
Ensure all account reconciliations are completed correctly each month
Manage payroll system and processes
Handle employee health benefit programs and other HR Generalist functions, as needed
Coordinate the preparation of annual budget with assistance from CEO & managers
Manage inventory accounting and processes
Manage fixed assets and systems to properly track status
Prepare or accumulate necessary data for tax return preparers
Assist the CEO and other business managers in modeling forecasts
Hire, train, coach, develop and appraise accounting staff effectively
Ensure compliance with federal, state and local legal requirements by staying current with existing and new legislation; advises management of actions and potential risks
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
10+ years of direct experience in Accounting
5+ years of experience working in a management position
5+ years of experience managing accounting staff members
Bachelor?s Degree in Accounting
CPA certification preferred
Extensive experience and judgement to plan and accomplish goals
SKILLS :
Strong competency with Accounting Systems (Quickbooks Enterprise)
Technical expertise in GAAP accounting and treasury management
Highly proficient with Excel
Good leadership skills and ability to direct the work of others
Good written and verbal communications
Proficiency in financial planning and analysis
Organized, detailed oriented and diligent
Understands the ethical standards and confidentiality of a CPA
Responsive team player with ability to quickly prioritize among numerous pressing tasks
Task and goal oriented and capable of functioning in an entrepreneurial and corporate setting
Proficiency in financial planning and analysis
Manufacturing and Retail experience a strong plus
