Accounting Assistant Job Opening in Columbia, Maryland - Who We Are:
The Maryland Coalition of Families (MCF) is the statewide family voice for families of children and adolescents with mental health, substance use and/or other behavioral health needs. We provide direct support and assistance to families, and advocate for improving services in all systems of care for children, youth and families.
Overview:
The Accounting Assistant supports all Finance Department functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger entry and analysis, fee-for-service accounting, filing and other tasks assigned by the Senior Director of Finance and Administration. This position is open to part-time or full-time applicants (20 - 40 hours per week) and a competitive salary and benefits package is available.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Accounts Payable ? reviews vendor invoices and other payment requests for proper coding, approval and accuracy; enters into accounting system; processes payments; files paid bills
Accounts Receivable ? prepares timely invoices based on grant requirements, records payments, prepares bank deposits, files in appropriate grant files, assists with collection of outstanding balances
Payroll - processes bi-weekly payroll and employee expense reimbursements
Assists with other accounting system processing, including journal entries and budgets
Assists with monthly financial closing process, including preparation of monthly account analysis and financial reports
Manages, submits, and tracks fee-for-service billing, claim reimbursements, resubmittals and collections; maintains up-to-date accurate records for all claims processed and pending, reconciles denials and follow up with billing vendors as needed
Purchases customized goods and services for youth in wraparound programs; manages related monitoring, tracking and reporting tasks
Other related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Bachelor?s degree preferred.
2-3 years related, non-profit accounting experience.
Grant accounting and payroll experience.
Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently, anticipate issues and prioritize assignments.
Flexibility to adapt to changing systems and processes.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Excel and Word) and QuickBooks required.
A background check is required for all MCF employees.
MCF will give preference to qualified candidates who are a primary caregiver of a youth, adolescent or young adult who has intensive behavioral health needs.
