Job Summary
The Junior Staff Accountant is responsible for assisting the Finance Department in various aspects of accounting including cost accounting, expense report auditing, tax preparation and filing, and monthly close and reconciliation. The Junior Staff Accountant reports to the Controller.
Qualifications for Junior Staff Accountant
Required:
Bachelor?s degree in Accounting
Proficiency with Microsoft Windows
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, advanced Excel skills
Detail-oriented, accurate, and ability to meet deadlines
Presentation and reporting skills
Team player with positive attitude
Clear oral and written communication skills while maintaining confidential information
Self-starter, willing and motivated to learn on-the-job.
Desirable: 1-3 years bookkeeping, accounting or administrative experience
Primary Responsibilities
Accounting Support
Key user for all accounting functions within the accounting software (AP, AR, PO, GL, Inventory)
Assist Controller with all financial statements in accordance with generally accepted accounting procedures (GAAP)
Work with Controller to ensure all disbursements are recorded in the proper general ledger accounts
Verify all assets and liabilities are recorded in the appropriate general ledger accounts
Assist Controller in bad debts and evaluate and record into the general ledger system
Perform analysis of financial statements
Assure that all sales tax returns are prepared and filed with appropriate state authorities
Review sales tax liability general ledger accounts quarterly, confirm with A/R and Sales
Assure that cash is reconciled on a monthly basis to the general ledger system
Cost Accounting
Update standard cost as required
Assist in labor and labor overhead hourly rates for company (US Style)
Review key bill of materials as assigned
Review and input production performance results per employee for use in developing cost account rates
Assist in development of customer and product line profitability accounting system
Finance Support
Audit all sales orders from Sales & Service Departments for accuracy on a daily basis
Maintain and update customer folders on Company Intranet (credit references, certificates of insurance, credit reports)
Track demo orders from release to return to inventory stock movement
Record credit card invoicing and payments
Research credit history for New Customer requests to establish credit balance
Track past due customer invoices / accounts
