SUMMARY
The Sales Representative is responsible for negotiating pricing with customers and carriers, qualifying and landing new opportunities and taking ownership of new and existing accounts for HCI Logistics in addition to duties for an Entry Level Sales Representative. Organizational skills, dedication, enthusiasm, and reliability are imperative for success.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Negotiates pricing and rate structure with customers and carriers.
Must qualify potential customers and pursue from discovery to implementation.
Takes ownership of and manages accounts.
Primary daily contact for multiple accounts of various sizes.
Must understand the importance of deadlines, remain calm and work through pressure to solve problems.
Must display a sense of urgency associated with just-in-time shipments.
Assesses customer needs and present solutions.
Inputs load data into transportation software data base.
Schedules pick up and delivery appointments for loads.
Ensures loads are dispatched, loaded and delivered within reasonable dispatch.
Verifies that load delivers without overages, shortages or damages.
Notifies salesperson of any deviations from load schedules.
Enters data from carrier set up packets and review and verify carrier insurance to reduce threat of claims.
Develops and expands relationships with customers and carriers.
Manages repeat business.
Maintains high level of customer service with both customers and carriers.
Sources equipment for existing freight.
Develops thorough industry knowledge.
Exhibits expertise in multiple transportation modes.
Participates in company sponsored training and educational sessions.
Must be willing to travel.
Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Must be self motivated, possess hunter mentality and desire to grow business.
Ability to qualify potential customers and pursue from discovery to implementation.
Have developed an understanding of company capabilities and capacities.
Develop an understanding of seasonality and market conditions and how they impact supply and demand.
Ability to work in a dynamic, entrepreneurial organization, in both a team and independent environment.
Ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment.
Ability to communicate effectively and professionally via phone, fax, e-mail or written correspondence.
Ability to communicate with various levels of supply chain.
Excellent analytical, organizational and problem solving skills are essential.
Computer knowledge including, but not limited to: word processing, e-mail and spreadsheets.
Must possess time management skills while maintaining impeccable attention to detail.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
Degree in Business Administration preferred. Prior experience in sales may be substituted for formal education.
