Position Title Contemporary Music Director FT/PT PT, Year Round Position Classification Salaried/Exempt Accountable To Director of Music in Worship Collaborates Directly With Pastor, Head of Staff, Worship & Music Committee, Sound System Volunteers Supervise Other singers and musicians for contemporary worship Presence Required on Sunday Yes Required Attendance at Worship & Music Committee Meetings Yes Purpose of Position: To lead, develop, and manage all music in weekly contemporary service of worship in order to fulfill the mission of Rolling Bay Presbyterian Church. Qualifications: Passion for leading contemporary music in worship. Accomplished Contemporary Music Leader (minimum 3 to 5 years experience). Love for contemporary worship music and respect for traditional worship music. Has developed a full repertoire of contemporary music. Long-term Christian commitment demonstrated in active participation in a Christian Church through regular worship and service. An active, meaningful life of prayer. Professional degree in music preferred, with an emphasis on worship music or commensurate experience leading contemporary music in worship of a Christian church. Preference for resident of Kitsap County area. Must integrate into the life of worship, fellowship, and service of church. Membership in Rolling Bay Presbyterian Church not required. Demonstrated leadership experience in church or other employment Excellent ability to provide care, recruit, develop, inspire, singers and musicians. Strong communication and interpersonal skills?a ?people? person. Music planning, teaching skills in the context of worship. Team player who can clearly articulate their perspective while appreciating lines of authority between committees, pastor, and volunteers. Self-Starter who seeks a tremendous challenge to create a new service of contemporary worship within a sanctuary that is primarily built for choral music. Life-long learner who seeks out knowledge and best practices in music ministry. A good understanding regarding how sound systems enhance contemporary worship. Responsibilities 1. To select and ensure appropriate music for all Sunday and seasonal services of contemporary worship. (Weddings and funerals are optional.) 2. To create and direct a contemporary worship music band for Sunday worship, weekly regular practice, and provide care for band members. 3. To meet weekly with the Pastor and Director of Music in Worship to plan worship services. 4. To recruit, inspire, and develop singers and musicians for contemporary worship. 5. Develop from scratch and maintain contemporary music library. 6. Supervise any other paid or volunteer contemporary musicians in worship. 7. To actively participate on Worship & Music Committee. Time requirements This is a year around, part-time, position with heavy hours on Sunday mornings and one weeknight for band prep and practice. It is expected this person will work between 16-20 hours per week. Weekly work hours will be approved by the Director of Music in Worship. Because of the nature of the position, it is not expected that this person will have set regular office hours; yet, they will have set, clear systems of communication and availability.
