Accounting Assistant Job Opening in Alexandria, Virginia - Job Summary:
This position reports directly to the Accounting Manager. The Accounting Clerk provides support to the accounting department by reconciling statements, filing documents and other duties as assigned.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsible for preparing journal entries for the daily posting packet which includes maintenance of the cash letter deposit worksheets
Accounts Payable / Accounts receivable processing.
Responsible for maintaining (i.e. reloading funds, supplies)
Responsible for remitting monthly back-up withholding to the IRS.
Responsible for verifying the daily wires.
Responsible for preparing the monthly journal entries.
Responsible for reconciling general ledger accounts as assigned.
Responsible for performing tasks necessary to balance and update general ledger accounts as assigned.
Responsible for researching and resolving discrepancies and accounting errors.
Responsible for preparing various accounting reports as required.
Other related clerical duties as assigned.
Position
Working knowledge of Symitar and Profitstars
Proven ability to read, write and communicate at a level consistent with the requirements of this position
Excellent interpersonal skills and customer development skills
Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with colleagues
Strong attention to detail
Good, sound, and practical judgment
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
High School Diploma (or GED); some college preferred
Minimum of two (2) years? experience in credit unions and/or financial institutions
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external members, staff and auditors
Excellent computer proficiency (MS Office ? Word, Excel, Outlook)
Physical Requirements:
· Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
· Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards
