Position Description / Assignment & Training Plan
POSITION: Finance/Accounting Intern
REPORTS TO: Accounting Manager
DEPARTMENT: Finance
LOCATION: Hampton Roads Area Command
WORK SCHEDULE: To be determined based on internship requirements. This is an unpaid, part time internship that will last for a 6-8 week period. The intern is expected to work 20-30 hours per week scheduled between the hours of 8:00am to 4:30pm. Working hours can be flexible, as needed. Intern should have reliable form of transportation, as some local travel may be expected.
QUALIFICATIONS: Currently enrolled as Business, Finance, Economics, or Account Major. Candidate will be required to pass background and credit check.
BASIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist in providing assistance to Accounting Manager with daily tasks.
DUTIES ASSIGNED:
Assists with month-end financial reports.
Assists with audits.
Help with accounts receivable, payable, and bank statement reconciliation.
Balance sheet reconciliation.
Data Entry. Update and edit databases, documents, and materials.
Consolidate and organize files and databases.
Performs related work for special and seasonal projects.
Performs other related work as required.
TRAINING OFFERED:
The Salvation Army will provide opportunities for the intern to become familiar with nonprofit business and finance and nonprofit management. Skills gained in this internship will translate to a variety of endeavors and interns can expect to interface with and gain experience in areas related to accounting, project management, finance, business, and human resources.
