General Utility Worker Job Opening in asheville, North Carolina - General Utility Worker An individual in this class performs some custodial and primarily minor building and grounds maintenance duties in a State Park. Duties of this class involve considerable public contact in answering questions from park visitors or in answering complaints concerning improper functioning of park facilities or equipment. Cuts wood for fuel, trims hiking trails, cleans picnic grounds and buildings, turns off lights, rearranges guest cabin equipment and mows lawns, removes leaves and underbrush as protection against fires. Notices and locates situations where repairs are necessary, reports these findings to a superior and makes recommendations concerning repairs needed. Answers routine questions from park visitors concerning such things as facilities available, charges for use of facilities, general history of the area and where to secure additional information. Knowledge of basic hand tools. Ability to perform work requiring mechanical aptitude. Ability to successfully meet and deal with the public. Ability to understand and carry out verbal instructions. Ability to perform work involving physical strain for extended periods of time. WEEKENDS ARE REQUIRED. Employee housing is available.
