This is a unique opportunity to be part of a young and fast-growing leader in the cannabis industry. The Director of Finance and Accounting is responsible for establishing and executing financial policies, procedures, controls, reporting and financial systems. The Director will have functional responsibility over accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, technical reporting, and taxes. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, this person will be involved in supporting presentations to the Board and will work closely with the senior leadership team. The Director will work closely with Directors of various business units and staff, to educate them regarding finance and accounting procedures and to explore how the finance function can further support business unit operations.
Principal responsibilities
Establish and maintain accounting principles, policies, and procedures.
Ensure that key controls are established and effective to ensure accurate financial reporting and timely risk prevention and/or detection.
Prepare financial statements and analysis on key financial metrics.
Manage billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, cash and treasury functions and payroll
Prepare federal, state and local tax filings
Serve as a key business partner to the senior leadership team and assist in business decision support through the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and other financial operating reports in coordination with operating business heads
Work closely on analysis and structuring with all departments to effectively structure transactions and ensure that proper accounting requirements are met.
Identify ways to do things better, faster and more efficiently. Initiate, lead and deliver change.
Requirements
A strong knowledge of accounting concepts, techniques, principles and systems.
Strong knowledge of internal controls.
Team player.
Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy in work product.
Strong track record in identifying and delivering process improvements that either enhance the control environment and/or drive efficiencies for the business.
Skill in analyzing and interpreting financial data
Ability to work well with shifting deadlines and priorities
A strong track record of execution and delivery of successful results.
Strong communicator with ability to succinctly articulate business and accounting issues to a variety of audiences and at all levels of the organization.
Effectively provides and receives constructive feedback.
Self-motivated, self-directed with the ability to prioritize and drive value independently.
Experience and Training Requirement
Bachelor?s degree in Accounting or CPA
5+ years of accounting experience, including some Controller responsibility, financial planning and analysis and operational accounting experience
Proficient with QuickBooks and Excel
Public accounting experience is preferred but not required
MBA or CMA is preferred but not required
