Triage Nurse Job Opening in Nashville, Tennessee - The triage nurse is the first point of contact for a patient entering the emergency room. The triage nurse is responsible for gathering initial information from the patient such as their symptoms, age and current medical conditions. They also take vital signs, sometimes measure height or weight if necessary and order additional x-rays or blood tests. They enter all information into the hospital computer system which creates a medical record that is then transmitted to the doctor or nurse who sees the patient next. Most triage nurses are licensed registered nurses but some states allow licensed practical nurses to work in triage as long as an RN is supervising. Being a triage nurse is exciting due to the high volume of patients per day, but can also be stressful from working in a fast paced environment.
