Senior Systems Engineer - NASA IV&V Job Opening in Fairmont, West virginia - MPL Corporation is a provider of Independent Verification and Validation (IV&V) services to the NASA IV&V Program located in Fairmont, West Virginia. At the NASA IV&V Facility, we support NASA's IV&V Program, delivering analysis and verification & validation of safety-critical and mission-critical software for a number of important NASA programs, including both human and robotic exploration as well as earth and space science collection platforms.
The successful Systems Engineer candidate will learn to work independently and as a member of a team in one or more of these IV&V projects or other IV&V Program functional areas.
Under some supervision, performs technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost, risk, supportability, and effectiveness analyses for total systems.
Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical constraints.
Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, and requirements allocation and interface definition studies to evaluate compliance of software specifications with customer requirements.
Performs IV&V planning, modeling, validation, engineering, and verification activities.
Analyzes of NASA program procedures and processes and develops/recommends improvements.
Prepares reports, research, and other contract deliverables. Participates in selected programs, events, and meetings involving Government customers.
Required Qualifications:
Minimum of 4 years of experience with a Bachelor?s degree in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or other software-related engineering program, OR minimum of 2 years with a M.S degree in same fields listed above, OR an additional 4 years of directly related experience in lieu of degree
Ability to obtain and maintain a public trust clearance.
Familiarity with some or all of the following: UML, software architecture, service oriented architecture, agile processes, systems engineering, software safety and mission assurance, and verification and validation. Able to lead small teams in selected technical task completion. Occasional travel may be required.
Working experience with all major aspects of the software development life cycle (requirements, design, implementation, and test)
Excellent writing and communication skills are required, and ability to interact well in group meeting/working environments.
Familiarity with software architecture, systems engineering, software integration, and verification and validation.
Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Desired Qualifications:
Experience and expertise with NASA, NOAA, or military programs involving spacecraft flight software including knowledge of spacecraft software domains such as Command & Data Handling, Telecommunications, Electrical Power Subsystem, Thermal Control Subsystem, SpaceWire (SpW) protocol, Fault Protection/FDIR, Autonomy, or Vehicle Health Management
Experience or expertise with model based system and software engineering techniques and practices
Is a self-starter who can work independently, but who also functions well in a team environment
Is an excellent verbal and written communicator
Takes ownership of tasks and problems and provides solutions
Maintains excellent rapport with all internal and external customers
