A Program Director is expected to be committed to the institution and work to support the Mission of the institution. They should be focused on students and supporting students to reach their career goal.
This is a salaried exempt position and qualifies for all benefits offered by the University. Employees in this position are not eligible for overtime and are expected to complete bi-weekly time sheets.
Program Directors are expected to teach a minimum of 20 hours per week (4-6 classes). They will also manage externships which are not considered a teaching prep except for some specialized programs like nursing, surgical technology and paramedic.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities
Supervision of specific program.
Participate in Curriculum Development Meetings.
Participate in curriculum and textbook reviews.
Assist students with scheduling.
Complete reports as needed to send to accrediting bodies.
Each term provide academic advising to students in the program.
Observe and evaluate faculty in the program.
Participate in both student and faculty orientation.
Assist Campus Director with hiring of new faculty.
Provide Assistance with information required to submit to accrediting bodies.
Follow the approved course syllabus to delivery course content according to method of instruction provided by the University.
Grade all assessments, record grades and provide student feedback.
Competently utilize Blackboard, virtual library, synchronous video delivery tools and other University resources to deliver courses following University approved syllabi.
Complete an annual professional development plan that includes at least 2 professional development activities and 2 in-service activities. Provide documentation of completed plan.
Incorporate the use of outside resources into courses including guest speakers, field trips, and virtual library use.
Sign and follow the faculty expectations document each term.
Attend faculty meetings as scheduled.
Education and Experience
The Program Director must have a current credential in the field of medical assisting (RMA, CMA, CCMA, or NCMA) approved by the National Commission on Certifying Agencies (NCCA). The Program Director must have a minimum of a bachelor?s degree , preparation in educational theory and techniques, and a minimum of 160 hours performing or observing administrative and clinical duties in the ambulatory healthcare setting relative to medical assisting to comply with the Standards and Guidelines for the Medical Assisting Educational Program (MAERB). The Director must also have a minimum of 3 years of work experience in healthcare and must have 1 year teaching experience in post-secondary and/or education.
Evaluation
The End of Course Surveys and Instructor Evaluations contain evaluative criteria applicable to this position. Other reports may be used as necessary to contribute to that evaluation. A formal review will be conducted annually and may be conducted more frequently depending on longevity and supervisory needs.
