Staff Accountant - General Accounting Job Opening in Austin, Texas - Job Description:
Citizens, Inc. is seeking a highly motivated Accountant with outstanding analytical ability to join our Accounting team. The Accountant will collect and prepare accurate financial information to reconcile with the General Ledger and other regulatory reporting. This position will understand and effectively execute accounting processes and controls within the department. This role is located in Austin, Texas and works under the direction of the Accounting Manager .
Essential Job Duties:
Prepares and records accounting transactions into the general ledger
Completes account and bank reconciliations
Preparation of GAAP and statutory financial statements
Prepare reports and ensure the accuracy of the Company?s current financial position, business activities as required by insurance regulatory agencies and the SEC.
Analyze the financial results of Company reports and financial statements
Experience in general ledger design, implementation and conversions.
Support the successful implementation and maintenance of internal accounting financial controls to enhance the accuracy of financial reports, recommending areas of improvement as needed
Perform other related duties as required and assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
Degree in Accounting from an accredited college or university.
Three to five years of accounting related experience.
Good working knowledge of accounting principles and practices, including GAAP and statutory accounting, and internal controls.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite; Microsoft Excel mastery required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Insurance or Financial Services industry experience a plus.
Experience in general ledger design, implementation and conversions.

Knowledge of GAAP and statutory accounting principles.
Knowledge of current SEC rules and regulations.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Skill in managing multiple priorities.
Skill at anticipating, identifying and resolving financial issues.
Ability to read, analyze and interpret financial and insurance-related concepts and procedures.
Ability to execute within time constraints.
Ability to partner with various business functions.
Ability to maintain professional relationships with internal/external stakeholders.
Ability to work under pressure and within short time constraints in a complex system and business integrated environment.
Ability to effectively present basic financial information to management.
Miscellaneous Requirements:
Ability to work Monday-Friday, 8AM ? 5PM with occasional flexible hours, overtime, weekends.
Work Environment
Primarily indoors with heating and cooling regulated in a general office environment. The noise level in the work environment is generally low.
Physical Requirements
The physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
Ability to reach high and low; open, close and retrieve files from file cabinets as well as operate computer mouse, keyboard, and appropriate office equipment. The position requires the ability to frequently stand, walk, sit for long periods of time, lift up to 20 lbs., open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary.
