Hospice Volunteer Job Opening in Meridian, Idaho - Volunteering for hospice can be a challenging and rewarding experience. Volunteer training teaches you how to care for people with life-limiting illnesses as well as their family and friends. By serving people who are making choices on how to spend their last precious days of life, volunteers learn more about themselves and what really matters.
Volunteers are special people who make a difference in the lives of hospice patient's and their families. They also make a valuable contribution to the community and enhance their own well-being. As a hospice volunteer you are an integral part of our interdisciplinary team apparoach that includes: Registered Nurses, Nursing Assistants, Social Workers, Spiritual Care, Bereavement, Music Therapy, and Massage Therapy.
You don't need an advanced degree or specialized skillset to help care for someone during the last days of their life. All you need is a heart for comforting and caring for others - we provide all the training you'll need through our free volunteer training program.
Some examples of volunteer tasks are:
- Provide respite and support for family and other caregivers
- Read to patients, play games, work on puzzles, take patient for a walk, arts and crafts
- Offer companionship to patients and their families
- Provide bereavement support for families
- Provide professional services ( lawn service, legal and accounting)
- Assist with special events and celebrations - Phone calls to patients and families
- Create cards we can deliver to patients on birthdays, holidays, and other special occasions
- Bake Cookies for cupcakes for special occasions
- Create memory books and life reviews
There are many other ways to make a contribution based on your own interests and skills, (music, gardening, art, sports, etc). After application, initial interview, and orientation are complete, you will be matched with a patient with similar interests. If you want to help and are not ready for patient contact, we have many opportunities for you here in the office as well as helping with special events.
Volunteers are required to submit to a TB test and also a background check at no cost to you. Volunteers must be at least age 18.
