This position is a Family Practice Physician assigned to a Family Practice Clinic within Naval Health Care New England. The position is responsible for independent delivery of appropriate quality medical diagnosis and treatment to active duty military, dependent, retired and civilian personnel. The selectee serves as preceptor and consultant to mid-level providers including physician assistants, consultants and advisor to the primary care physicians and participate as medical representative on boards, committees and other activities involving the health care of the beneficiary population.
The purpose of this announcement is to recruit qualified individuals using OPM Government-wide Direct Hire Authority (DHA) authorized by Title 5 USC §3304 and 5 CFR 337 Part 337, Subpart B.

DUTIES:
In this position, you will perform meaningful professional work in the field of Family Medicine. A typical day includes the following:
Evaluate, diagnose, and provide medical treatment for urgent, acute, and chronic medical care.
Provides technical direction and training to nurses, physician assistants, and corpsmen.
Perform physical examinations, ordering and interpreting appropriate diagnostic studies, prescribing medications and performing patient education.
Identify emergent medical conditions and provide emergency care to stabilize patients experiencing life-threatening conditions.
Evaluate, treat and refer patients with medical conditions requiring inpatient care to local civilian hospitals and other specialists.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Degree: MD or DO from accredited school in the United States or Canada. Is your medical degree from a foreign medical school? If yes, then you must have a permanent ECFMG or Fifth Pathway Certificate. Please make sure your application includes a photocopy of your ECFMG or Fifth Pathway Certificate and number including the date awarded.
License: Active, valid, unrestricted license to practice medicine in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
Graduate Training/Experience: At least 4 years of residency training or equivalent experience and training in Family Practice (i.e., 3 year residency and 1 year fellowship and/or experience). Your resume must indicate you have sufficient expertise in Family Practice to perform the core privileges of this position at the GS-15 level. This includes, but is not limited to, the following: examining, diagnosing, and developing and managing patient treatment plans for pediatric to geriatric patients; determining the need for consultation with other specialists; prescribing and dispensing medications; and evaluating the quality of care provided to patients and identifying opportunities to improve care.
Satisfy BUMEDs clinical privileges requirementswhich, in addition to the above, includes the following:
- Completion of a Family Practice residency approved by the American specialty board or AOA, board certification in Family Practice, or board eligible in Family Practice.
- Current clinical competence (e.g., privileged to independently practice Family Practice within the past 2 years, actively practiced Family Practice within the past 2 years by having encountered a sufficient number of clinical cases to represent a broad spectrum of the privileges required).
- No health status contraindications to granting clinical privileges.
- Board certification is desired, but not required.
