What You Will Do ( Job Summary)
The Assistant Counsel is responsible for helping to manage our network of over 6,700 Participating Law Firms (PLFs) and 14,000 attorneys to ensure that they provide the highest quality legal services to clients. The Assistant Counsel also serves as the supervisor of a team of Panel Representatives and is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day functions of Panel Representatives.
Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Responsibilities)
Supervise, objective set, develop and manage Panel Representatives
Recruit, interview and train new Panel Representatives
Assist in managing staffing levels, paid time off, performance reviews and compensation of Panel Representatives
Handle difficult issues and escalated complaints from customers and PLFs and provide appropriate guidance and resolution
Support all departments on issues related to Panel Management, including escalated issues from Client Service Center and sponsor issues from Plan Administration
Review coverage issues including coverage determinations and appeals
Review attorney billings and time sheets to insure proper payment on legal matters
Work with Accounting to review fee reimbursement requests as requested, billings and all kicks of attorney bills
Review and approve extra fee requests up to a certain dollar amount
Assist with management of the attorney panel including recruiting, training, supervising, evaluating, recredentialing and communicating with PLFs
Assist with management of the client inquiry system including: review and resolution of difficult inquiries; review allegations of attorney misconduct or poor service; review of attorney status; and categorization of inquiries
Serve as a resource and provide training for other departments on coverage and attorney network issues
Assist with Strategic Planning and other initiatives as needed
Ensure that Company?s Code of Excellence standards are practiced and maintained
Assist General Counsel with other issues as needed
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, skills, and abilities required)
Bachelor?s degree from an accredited university
D. from an accredited law school
Must be licensed in good standing in the State of Ohio or have the ability to sit for the State of Ohio bar examination
Possess a minimum of 8 years of experience as a practicing attorney
Strong time management skills and an ability to prioritize tasks
Ability to motivate a team to work together to achieve and support organizational goals
Ability to manage a team and support the individual goals and objectives of team members
Detail-oriented and well-organized, with the ability to handle a high volume workload
Self-motivated with the ability to take initiative
Ability to communicate effectively with attorneys and customers, both verbally and in writing
Strong leadership skills
Ability to analyze and manage client service issues
Ability to interact with team members at all levels of the organization
Ability to interact effectively with external partners and clients in all settings

Physical Demands and Work Environment The individual filling this role will work in a professional office environment and will routinely use standard office equipment such as computers, telephones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to talk or hear. The associate frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
