Main Street Fort Dodge Executive Director Job Opening in Fort Dodge, Iowa - The Main Street Fort Dodge Executive Director is responsible for analyzing, synthesizing, and developing revitalization strategies and recommendations for downtown Fort Dodge in consultation with the appropriate official and advisory bodies and coordinating their implementation to achieve project goals. The Main Street Fort Dodge Executive Director facilitates and coordinates the efforts of the local Main Street program committees, volunteers, and oversees daily operations. The Main Street Executive Director works for the pleasure of the Main Street/SSMID Board of Directors and reports directly to the President of the Main Street/SSMID Board of Directors. Essential Functions ? Coordinating volunteer work, recruitment, and motivating volunteers to do the work of the program. ? Familiarizing public officials, retailers, community groups, the general public, etc., with the nature and orientation of the Main Street effort. ? Interpreting previous studies and reports which analyze community resources and to develop a strategy for achieving revitalization goals.
Working cooperatively with the local community to develop and implement a local action plan and timetable including public and private activities. ? Implementing local objectives through the development of revitalization tools, such as rehabilitation programs, existing state and federal funding sources and grant opportunities, administration procedures, political mechanisms, legal tools, etc., as appropriate. Conducting site visits and assisting individual merchants and property owners with design and construction of physical restoration projects. Veterans, women, and minorities are encouraged to apply ? Assisting and coordinating downtown promotional events/activities through the planning, design, and implementation stages. ? Developing economic strategies to increase retailing in the downtown, attracting new users into existing facilities, and expanding market opportunities.
? Preparing and maintaining a continuing record of the program and submission of Main Street Iowa monthly reports.
? Acting as a data and information source for the Fort Dodge community.
? Developing and maintaining contracts with media sources to disseminate project information to the general public.
? Representing Main Street Fort Dodge program at regional and statewide trainings and conferences. Out of town and some overnight travel is required.
? Guiding the City and Main Street/SSMID Board of Directors toward implementation of the purposes of the Downtown Self-Supported Municipal Improvement (SSMID) District, as established by Fort Dodge City Ordinance 1594, to help revitalize and redevelop the District.
? Assisting the City and Main Street/SSMID Board of Directors with the renewal of the SSMID District per the Iowa State Code Chapter 386 (Self-Supported Municipal Improvement District).
? Posting and facilitating all Main Street/SSMID Board of Director meetings in accordance with the Iowa State Code Chapter 386 (Self-Supported Municipal Improvement District).
Job Qualifications The Main Street Fort Dodge Executive Director should have an undergraduate degree and/or relevant, proven experience in Main Street or historic commercial district development, volunteer management, retailing, marketing, accounting, budgeting, historic preservation, or small business development. The Main Street Executive Director must be energetic, well organized, and entrepreneurial; have the ability to multitask, work well with others; and be capable of functioning effectively in an independent situation. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential. The Main Street Executive Director should possess PC skills and preferably have knowledge of Word, Excel and QuickBooks. A current and valid driver's license is required. Salary and Benefits Salary and benefits to be determined, based on qualifications. This is an exempt position.
