JOB DESCRIPTION
Accountant: This is a part time (24 hours a week), non-exempt position that is responsible for the financial systems, financial reporting, and daily fiscal operations of both the Violence Prevention Center and the Shelter Shop. The Accountant works a flexible schedule, to meet the demands of the position. Position is supervised by the Executive Director.
Qualifications: Master?s Degree in Accounting (preferably CPA) with minimum of 2 years of experience, working in a non-for-profit organization with grant accounting experience. Demonstrated excellent analytical, organizational, decision-making, and written and oral communication skills. Must exhibit ability to work independently to meet required reporting deadlines. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word, and computerized accounting software (Blackbaud Financial Edge a plus).
Typical :
Process vendor invoices and/or request for payments into the Accounts Payable module with proper account distribution, prepare checks and obtain necessary signatures.
Prepare, enter and post all financial entries (cash receipts, sales, payroll, in-kind, match entries) to the general journal with allocation to specific grant project codes.
Prepare, analyze and submit required financial statements to the VPC finance committee, Executive Director and Board of Directors for decision-making purposes. Submit required financial statements as required by donors, funding agencies, and VPC resource committee.
File monthly sales tax return for Shelter Shop.
Monitor cash flow for payroll distribution and expense disbursements.
Reconcile bank statements with oversight from Executive Director, process payroll distributions in conjunction with the payroll vendor.
Ensures program compliance of agency fiscal policies and grant requirements.
Reconcile Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable and ledger accounts to ensure accuracy of month-end data. Coordinate month end close and year-end closing.
Responsible for grant fiscal reporting.
Coordinate maintenance of fixed asset listing and depreciation schedules with external auditors.
Organize and prepare program budgets, grant budgets and annual organization budget in partnership with the Executive Director, Director of Development, and VPC finance committee.
Prepares necessary schedules for yearly audit. Organize, communicate and work with external auditors.
Participate in the development, implementation, maintenance and updates of fiscal policy and procedure manuals.
File all financial paperwork, and participate in staff meetings and finance committee meetings on a monthly basis.
General and Related Responsibilities:
Assist with agency operations.
Participate in trainings as appropriate.
Perform related duties as assigned.
