Director of Pharmacy Job Opening in Fort Thomas, Kentucky - JOB SUMMARY The Director of Pharmacy (DOP) maintains and coordinates systems to ensure that pharmacy operations run efficiently on a day-to-day basis. This position ensures appropriate pharmaceutical care is administered to patients of the hospital and supervises professional, technical, and clerical pharmacy personnel involved in pharmacy operations. In addition, they must perform the duties of a staff pharmacist, as facility has very serious patients coming from ICU , needing constant care and good clinical skills also requires 50% hands on and 50% administration . 1 to 3 years management skills with JACHO and operations very important.
QUALIFICATIONS
Requires graduation from an accredited College of Pharmacy (Pharm D or BS Pharm plus advanced degree or completion of an accredited hospital pharmacy residency is preferred)
A minimum of three (3) years of hospital experience within the last 5 years (one (1) year in a managerial role preferred)
BLS if required by State * Must maintain a current license in the state of practice * Prefer Board Certification and/or Residency

Follows established procedures for procurement of medications on an emergency basis. Completes annual inventory process and forwards to the Business Office.
Complies with all Federal and State Pharmacy laws, rules, and regulations.
Oversees monthly removal of outdated medications and returns them to the manufacturer. Documents all recalled drugs.
Maintains an available stock of antidotes and other emergency drugs, both in the pharmacy and in patient care areas.
Participates in the development and subsequent updating of a hospital formulary or drug list. Provides hospital formulary or drug list to the professional staff that use it
prepares all drugs and chemicals. Prepares, sterilizes, and labels parenteral medications and solutions that are manufactured in the hospital.
Ensures individuals who prepare or administer large volumes of parenterals have performed competency assessment to do so.
Ensures all sterile products prepared in the hospital are properly labeled and include appropriate expiration dates.

Departmental expenses at or below budgeted levels. Assures technicians maintain records of borrow/lend transactions and that these transactions are reconciled on at least a quarterly basis.

and maintains staff competency plan to ensure age, weight, and patient organ function is reviewed as it relates to appropriateness of therapy.
and implements departmental policies and procedures as required. Reviews all policies and procedures at least on a yearly basis. Ensures that any systems change is preceded by development of the appropriate policy and procedure and a documented in-service, if necessary.
at least one (1) clinically oriented program a year. These may include but are not limited to: Pharmacokinetic Dosing Service, Patient Counseling, Pain Management Services, or Nutritional Support Service.
and maintains Performance Improvement (PI) program, and takes appropriate action to correct deficiencies, reporting results to the Quality Manager and Regional Pharmacy Director. Reports are submitted punctually. Corrective measures and improvements are documented. PI program is reviewed and updated at least yearly.

and participates in new employee training and education programs. Applies most recent technique to job duties and pursues appropriate avenues of professional development. Attends or completes (through approved Continuing Education programs) at least one (1) program a year related to management topics. Maintains pharmacy in-service and Continuing Education programs. Develops and maintains new Employee Training Programs. Assures new staff are adequately trained in a timely manner. Participates in orientation, education, and training programs provided for the pharmacy staff. Provides for the educational needs of pharmacy staff and other healthcare professionals.

in all meetings of the pharmacy and therapeutics committee and implements the decisions of that committee throughout the hospital. Functions as a member of the Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee, assures accurate and complete reporting of committee minutes and implements P&T recommendations.
in patient drug therapy monitoring. Monitors patient drug therapy regimens for contraindication, drug-drug interactions, drug-food interactions, allergies, and appropriateness of drug and dose. Detects and reports suspected adverse drug reactions. Provides clinical consultation and clarification to practitioners. Supports the pharmacy?s Econotherapeutic efforts.
