Production Engineer For Complex & Advanced Trading Systems E... Job Opening in Chicago, Illinois - Production Engineer with strong automation, scripting and an understanding of moving lines of code into a production estate wanted to join a boutique team within a large hedge fund.
Our client operates one of the most advanced technical environments in the financial industry and requires a Production Engineer who will be responsible for configuration and support of our production environment. This will include all the systems required to execute trading models on a day to day basis and involves the deployment and configuration of our software, and the day to day support of critical systems.
The support aspect of the role will involve recording, triaging and investigating issues as you work closely with the trading and development teams to understand the impact and root cause of issues. In this role, you will co-ordinate the response and resolution to problems reported, and will define projects to improve our systems as part of a continuous improvement program.
The primary platform in use is Linux. The deployment and configuration management is based around Python, C++ and Shell Scripts.
This role is based in Chicago, IL, but relocation is offered for the right candidate. You will work in a small but strategic Quant team that has a huge impact on the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide day-to-day support for our production trading systems. Support is typically level 2 and level 3 in nature.
Deploy and configure new instances of software.
Capacity management including monitoring and planning.
Disaster recovery planning and testing.
Work with central infrastructure teams to design and manage our physical environment (hardware, networks, etc.)
Responsible for the QA environment.
Communicate and collaborate with the research, trading and software engineering teams to ensure that we are building software that is well designed in terms of production deployment.
Candidate Qualifications:
For this role, you need to hold a Bachelor?s in a scientific discipline (preferably a Masters) and have at least 4 years? experience in a support role with evidence of increasing responsibilities over time. Ideally at least a year of this should come within a financial services company.
You should have technical skills in Unix (RedHat, other Linux, Solaris, etc.) with the ability to navigate files and processes, use basic tools like sar, grep, tail, and write scripts to automate common activities. You should also have knowledge of a higher-level scripting language (example: Python or Perl) and C++. Any experience in Linux system administration and experience of supporting electronic trading systems or working with traders/trading desks is beneficial.
The successful candidate must be able to communicate clearly and concisely, particularly when under pressure.
