Software Engineer Job Opening in New York, New york - We are looking for a highly creative and innovation-driven Software Engineer to work with Envisagenics data engineers and bioinformatics scientists to enhance platform capabilities and optimize performance of the SpliceCore platform. Envisagenics is a highly multidisciplinary group combining software engineers, UX designers, computational biologists and pharma partners. We seek team players eager to integrate a founding team whose vision is finding better drug targets to cure yet incurable diseases using biological Big Data. We consider ourselves language and framework agnostic and strive to use the best tools for the job. We are looking for someone who thrives on coming up with simple and effective solutions to complicated problems, someone who is principled, an object-oriented software designer who loves to take proactive ownership of things.
Responsibilities:
Software engineering with focus on frontend and backend/API development
Work closely with other team members to design and build new features, services, and tools for Envisagenics? SpliceCore platform
Maintaining code and fixing bugs on the platform
Troubleshoot issues from browser to backend
Champion best practices and enforce technical standards
Respond to and develop ways to improve user feedback
Develop administrative interfaces to our platform
Scale and test infrastructure for performance and availability
Requirements:
Bachelor Degree in Computer Science or a related discipline
Experience designing and building RESTful APIs.
Strong background building web applications with your favorite object oriented web programming language, object-oriented programming languages in a production environment, such as Python, , Perl, Ruby and associated web frameworks
Some hands-on proficiency with a server side MVC framework
Data management with NoSQL data stores such as MongoDB, Cassandra, Riak
Software unit testing experience with TDD and/or BDD methods
Experience building "data" products. That can either be on the data side or the UI presentation side.
Ability to translate wireframes and designs into functional web apps
Experience with cloud services such as Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure or Amazon AWS
Product-centric: You love solving hard technical challenges and producing clean code, but you realize the product and the end-user?s experience is the most important thing. You need to care about the users and think beyond just the technical challenges.
An agile work ethic (Agile Development & SCRUM). Things change; you have to be okay with that

An ability to work independently; self-motivated with a high degree of intellectual curiosity
Desired Skills:
Experience with Grid Engine, Hadoop Mapreduce Jobs and/or Spark.
Some familiarity with Ansible, Docker, and any orchestration tool (mesos, kubernetes)
R/SAS/MatLab
Biology knowledge/DNA enthusiasm
