Description of Services
The successful candidate shall responsible for performing detailed clerical functions required to maintain the automated operating room scheduling system. Responsibilities include entering and updating data, as well as monitoring, verifying, confirming and distributing final schedules. Considerable contact with staff from clinical and surgical services and with residents and outside physicians is required.

Skills & Requirements
Minimum of three years experience within the last five years and/or completion of a perioperative nursing course is mandatory in operating room assignments.
Experience must include all phases of operating room technique such as preparing operating room units, preparing patients for surgery, and assisting medical officer during surgery; and conducting instrument and equipment sterilization procedures.
Familiarization and experience with Microsoft Office, Surgical scheduling systems, and electronic medical health records.
Knowledge of ICD9/10 and Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) coding (minimum of six months experience).
Knowledge of local and national healthcare standards such as Association of perioperative Nursing (AORN) Standards and Recommended Practices, The Joint Commission, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
Knowledge of a variety of pharmacological agents used in patient treatment, the desired effects, side effects, and complications of their use as well as the accurate administration of the pharmacologic agent, including dosage calculations as required.
Knowledge of the administrative requirements for proper documentation of patientâ??s condition including disease progress, acknowledgement of teaching, and follow up care.
Knowledgeable of laboratory test values.
Knowledge of computer operations and proficiency in the use of basic word processing data entry and automated medical records.
Essential Responsibilities
Attend and participate in meetings during normal duty hours and professional staff in services and other appropriate professional activities.
Quality Improvement meeting, professional staff meetings, Commander's staff meetings, Operating Room Flight meetings, and others required by applicable regulations, MTF guidance, or as directed by the Operating Room Flight Commander or his/her designated representative.
Provides professional nursing care to patients undergoing surgery. Prepares and maintains operating room for all surgical procedures. Establishes and utilizes a checklist to monitor the physical plan of the operating room and equipment for conformity to all national standards for ensuring safety for the patient and all personnel. Assembles the type and quantity of material and special equipment needed for daily procedures and possible emergencies. Circulates for surgical procedures. Responds to surgical emergency requirements such as cardiac, pulmonary, or respiratory failure and hemorrhage.
Plans and performs end user training for specialty clinic schedulers. Provides initial and interim training based on needs assessments.
Monitors projected surgery schedules in accordance with established scheduling guidelines, makes scheduling recommendations as necessary, in conjunction with the OR Operations Officer, to ensure optimal utilization of OR time, personnel, and material resources.
Interfaces with clinic schedulers and surgical team for accuracy of scheduling requests and prioritization of patient flow in the operating room. Collaborates with Flight Officer to resolve scheduling conflicts as appropriate.
* Develop, participate, and/or complete quality improvement and customer service
initiatives, special projects, and reports as required by the Surgical Services Flight and/or KMC leadership to meet unit and organizational objectives. Performs necessary fact-finding research and analysis in order to present findings, results, or recommendations.
Provides perioperative nursing care, for all types of patients admitted to the surgical suite for surgical intervention. Includes elective, urgent and emergency procedures on patients of all ages.
Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates nursing care for all patients including newborns, children, adolescents, adults and the elderly; disabled to include visually and hearing impaired; and individuals of varying ethnic and religious backgrounds to include those who do not speak or understand English.
Education
Must have at least a successful graduation from a nationally accredited school of nursing acceptable to the Surgeon General, HQ USAF and holding a current certification as a registered nurse (RN) is mandatory.
